It’s early but man, Altuntas looks like our worst scholarship player since Fabio Nass

If you watch him during warmups it is pretty mortifying that he’s playing P4 basketball. At that size coordination isn’t everything but man oh man watching him get up shots around the basket in warm ups was arguably the most pathetic thing I’ve seen on a D1 hoops court

Total misevaluation by this staff, especially becomes it feels like we were counting on him to provide valuable bench minutes. And to think, @Peter Ariz was hyping him up

Why would you bump this thread?

Based upon games played to date, @King of Allapattah couldn't have made a more accurate call.

Guy couldn’t even take a charge with the defender trying to run him over lol… let alone defending, rebounding, or scoring.

If Georges Muresan had a kid with Manute Bol...jk
I'm old enough to remember the opponent winning the NC last year whereas our guys went on lengthy losing streaks.
I say let the season play out.

4 games in for a teenager year old who was playing with Shane Larkin last year. El Oh El.

I didn’t bump it unprompted. Homie blew up my mentions.

I’m definitely not smart enough to know or say the player he can become… but he is also definitely not playable (at a P4 conference level) right now.

Florida just has a massive advantage over us with their frontcourt (that we can’t counteract with shooting). It’s just a bad (terrible) matchup for us. Other than confirming that we’re unlikely to make a deep run in March (not new), theres nothing new from last night’s game.

Still very optimistic about the season and Jai as a head coach.

And yet he will continue to get play. He is our third big and we only have three.

I believe the phylosophy will evolve as season goes on and we see more small ball lineups when Udeh needs breather. Rodney miller looks like Kareem compared to him

Henderson has to control his fouling as well for that to happen. Rodney Miller got no burn the first two years.

Not so sure about that. You can size down a bit and run Malovec and Allen at the 4 with one of Reneau and Udeh at the 5.

This is how I see the rotation shaking out once we get to conference play:

Donaldson
Washington
Henderson
Reneau
Udeh

D. Allen
M. Allen
Malovec
Spot minutes for Dovrat and Altuntas

He's got a long way to go as do all the freshmen. Jai has done a really good job cobbling together a compettive team from nothing, but there is very little depth.

Any thoughts on Allen taking Hendersons spot at some point? Obviously last night was brutal for him but can’t say I love his game currently in the starting 5

I don't know if you're referring to me, but I think I may have face palmed one of your comments here. Not sure that it equates to blowing up your mentions. Certainly, nothing to get bent out of shape over.

I think I've made my thoughts on Altuntas pretty clear. With that said, I'm still holding out hope and as I mentioned on the game thread from last night, I'm not ready to give up on him... yet! We just need him to be serviceable coming off the bench for 10-15 minutes a game. Need him to rebound, defend and set screens at a high level. If he can do those things, he'll be alright.

I think you’re right… and a team DEFINITELY does not need 3 bigs to have a successful season.

BUT… I’m also not sure we have the shooting needed to go small. If we can’t outshoot the rebounding disparity, it’s not going to work.

I am. Agreed that it’s a non-issue; just answering why I responded. Blowing up was a bit hyperbolic.

Yeah if the game slows down for him then he can rebound well and create space, w/ screens, for others. Gotta have his hands ready to catch and finish.
