"It’s just at-bats and persistence will turn him into a better player."

Sounds like an Al Golden metaphor. ****.

NONSENSE...Being from NJ Golden would have him playing in his freshmen year in front of Perryman...

Obviously most of you have never played competitive sports beyond middle school. We have holes but don't buy into all that he's saying. More of a motivational tactic for some 2nd team guys to step up. We fine. Let's ride.

Reminder that Al Golden did not think Denzel Perryman was a take. Barrow had to convince him.
Sure, he was a 3 star kid but just watch the high school tape and look at the schools that were after him.

This season can come fast enough....lots of Goldenitis still on this board

First team offense vs 2nd team defense & a projected #2 QB in the draft with an uptempo offense. REEEEEEEEEEEEELAX!!!

I think you ******** forget we won 8 games last season with Al Golden. also the worst defensive scheme & philosophy in football history. We are deep & talented on the D-line 7 very experienced in the secondary. Also this defensive scheme is going to create a ****load of turnovers. You turn the ball over to this offense & good luck to ya. Do I expect us to be a defensive juggernaut year 1? no. I do however know we WILL force a lot of TO's and that will be good enough. So stop with this mopey bull**** & get ******* fired up already.

Lol these posters are ridiculous man, +1

Coaches always downplay things and are always critical. You listen to Saban or BB from New England after and a win and you would think his team got beat, if you didn't watch the game

I actually agree with D_G87, we aren't fine, but Diaz's comments are a great sign at least in terms of our coaches being honest, transparent to motivate, and to establish a bar of expectation that needs to be held.

Many of our fans have been in psychological captivity the last 5 years or so, and are unfortunately accustomed to lies and being told exactly what we want to hear.

Diaz's comments prove that no one will touch the field who isn't prepared to be nasty and go hard.

He isn't settling folks, which is what this program has done and become accustomed to the last 15 years or so. And for this reason alone, Canes fans should be appreciative and relieved. Sincerity is back and dudes have to used to living without their kool-aid fix. Its fantasy, its time to accept reality and just roll canes style. I'm pumped.

Good post..

But change your **** name.. i hate it

“The coaches are setting a really high standard for us" --Jamie Gordinier

Dudes (some fans and players) are recovering from Stockholm's Syndrome and being brought back up to real college football. We have to be patient with them, the results will be worth it. We were mired in mediocrity and shaking it off can't be done by accepting or expecting less.

The players used to quit because of the unintelligent and stubborn schemes that they were blamed for not executing. Now the expectations are backed by intelligent football acumen and the ability to adjust, which puts the players in the best space to be successful. Therefore, we will never witness them quit again.

I guess I shouldn't ask why U hate my name, but Harriet Tubman is an iconic hero to me, plus the name had ironic symbolism associated with our fan's psychological state under Al Golden. Since we've been emancipated (for real this time), I guess I can think about a change. Thanks for the feedback tho.

golden was all about the process, this is a coach saying that as a kid plays more at lb a kid by the way used as a rush lb under golden now playing wlb in a 4-3 he will get better.

it sounds to me like a coach having confidence in a kids talent and knowing that the only way to get better is to play that position a lot and learn the nuances of it seeing he was used as slb/rush guy under golden and is now playing weakside lb in a 4-3 which is more a cover and run position instead of take on blocks shed and force guys back inside like he is used to.

We're in trouble. Our back 7 lack talent, depth, and experience. Will give up many yards and points especially without Grace

"...golden was all about the process..."

You know what is a striking difference? How much less Richt and staff use the word "process". It seemed to me Golden and staff couldnt form a sentence without using it.

It's become one of those over used "buzz words/phrases" that more often than not, who ever is using it has no idea what they are talking about.

Instead of "follow the process", Richt says, we need to score, or we need to get better in this area...etc...

Instead of "our players are going through a process and learning to buy-in"...Diaz says. when we hunt, we will hunt in packs...

The differences between the previous to current staffs is striking from top to bottom...

Go Canes.

Back 7 lack talent? Quarterman, Jenkins, mccloud(grace*)Pinckney, Carter, corn elder, Colbert, are very talented only the 3 linebackers lack experience. Experience is overrated in the case considering everybody has had the same amount of time to learn Diaz's defense tbh. If your young guys are at or above the level of play of the veterans then you should always go with with the younger guys because they have a higher ceiling. With that being said we have 3 warmup games before the season start. Get them as much experience as they can and let them ball

Whole program is undergoing a massive culture change. There's going to be growing pains
I agree. Seems like not everyone is buying in. I feel like we say it every year, but it looks like it might take 3-4 years. We need an influx of kids who refuse to lose.

If we're lucky.

Lot of staff will not be here in 3 or 4 years if it takes that long. For years now, our players come in and look good, then they get worse. No development by staff. Those 3 Fr LBS are top notch, if they get worse Mark needs to fire LB coach and DC as quickly as possible. Manny is starting to sound like Gilden already. Kool is the one who looks like a keeper.

Boy whoop is making a killing off some of y'all in this thread.

Why are people being so negative? He's at least being honest about how the defense is playing. If he wanted to do coach speak he could have just pretended like everything is holly jolly with the defense and there's nothing to fix.

Agreed. Diaz is actually talking about being better this year. And I appreciate that he admits that not everything is perfect. If he pretended that everything is perfect and there's nothing to improve on then he shouldn't be defensive coordinator.

I can't imagine Donofrio saying this. Because I honestly think Donofrio didn't expect the defense to play any less awful than it did under him.
