So first round results are inconsequential (Louisville) for big programs and consequential (Drake) for mid majors.
Kelsey turning Louisville completely around in year 1 is consequential. I couldn’t care less about their tournament game. I’ll say the exact same thing a year from now if Lucas gets us 20+ wins and into the tournament, even if we get smoked.

Meanwhile “It’s Drake” was tossed out to downplay how well McCollum has done in a year there as it implied it’s easy to win 30 games at Drake, so yeah, them making it out of the first round for the first time in 50+ years must be consequential in the context of this thread.

That difficult?

I took “it’s Drake,” as a sarcastic response that those 30 wins cemented McCollum. Drake had won 25 games or more four years prior to McCollum’s arrival so I understand the hesitation to crown him. That said, it was mos def a big win.

Respect your position/standard on 20 wins being the barometer for Lucas.

Kinda a weird basketball experiment going on where Chris Mack will takeover a strong hand that Kelsey left at Charleston as Kelsey retools the program Mack lit on fire before Payne completely burned it down.

Yeah he isnt an upgrade from Bennett, but solid experienced coach that has taken multiple teams to NCAA tournament.
Bennett is likely heading to the HOF, so it's unlikely they would be able to upgrade from that. Odom is solid, he's an above average coach with a good amount of experience. UVA, like NC State and other well managed programs, went out and made rational hires. Maybe it doesn't work out, but it's lot more likely these hires will work out, compared to the prayer Rad launched...

Exactly. There’s obviously no guarantee any of these hires work out. They can all burn down in flames for all we know.

But history (and logic) would indicate that hiring someone with prior HC experience and proven success has a higher likelihood to succeed than the alternative.

Nah, we can't use logic. The Miami Athletic department, like the city itself is a joke. It's about flash, never about substance. Say what you want about Mario, but there's a reason why when he came in he was immediately disgusted with what he saw in the program. Manny Diaz was the ultimate Miami hire, he looked the part, completely lacks the actual ability and skill needed to manage a world class program.

Never thought I'd say that Rad is Blake James, but with a slightly better resume, but here we are.
