RJ and Norton, yes both, would be retarded to leave early. Neither have impressed.

If you knew anything, you'd know it's a mistake financially for an underclassmen DT of his caliber to declare early.

Still waiting for examples of successful underclassmen DL declaring early.

Deflect deflect deflect!

Gerald mccoy, fletcher cox, justin houston, whitney merciulus, clowney, everson griffen, ziggy ansah and there is more.

All of our defensive tackles are overstated on this forum. It's parallel to opinion of the team as a whole. When there's a great defensive tackle on the roster then nobody is debating it because he's making plays and jumping out as one of the premier players on the field on a weekly basis. That doesn't describe McIntosh or Norton and it doesn't describe Willis last year.

There are defensive tackles from all the recent powerhouses atop the 2018 draft board right now, guys from Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Washington, Stanford, Florida State and so forth. The Canes guys are not there. Mark Walton is currently projected to go higher than anybody from our roster. That might not hold up after the combine, etc. but if we had an elite player he would already be up the ladder.

I enjoyed Canes football even during the '70s because defensive tackle is my favorite position and we always had star players there, despite the lackluster won/loss record. I haven't been suckered by this recent upturn specifically because our defensive tackles are not much of anything. Norton is a joke compared to someone like Vea from Washington. McIntosh is not even close to the kid from Florida, Taven Bryan. And so forth.

It's like the Dolphins butchering the first round picks every season and fans trying to pretend it doesn't matter. Golden missed the top defensive tackle targets year after year. We didn't magically overcome that and find dominant kids in the bushes. No, we found kids who allowed a nice upgrade to second tier status. Preferable to where we've been but acres from where we need to go.

Noted all great Awsi Dooger:

I was worried they would hire him. I touted McElwain for our opening in 2010 on the Rivals free board. He actually fell out of favor that year on the Alabama message boards after a couple of losses, including blowing the 24-0 home lead to Auburn and Cam Newton.

Very rare for an offensive coordinator to switch seamlessly from spread looks to power sets like McElwain does.
Lmao

It's in the best interest for a non dominant underclassmen DT to declare early.

Rj should go his stock will rise, especially after the combine and pro day to go along with tape. But Norton no way.

We will need Willis next season though for sure.

Actually the scouts would draft Norton higher , at least they say they would. I can complain if either of them leave as they will be 2nd or 3rd rounders. I never complain if guys can go that high . That is alot of money if you need it . Now if you don't need the money you can come back and be a 1st rounder . But if your family doesn't have money you don't have that luxury.

Lol well thenr recruiting will go bad as both are gonzo. Which is fine as we are loaded at their positions especially with Willis back.

If Norton and McIntosh both leave -

DE - Joe Jackson - Garvin - Rousseau or Chatfield

DT - Jon Ford - Nesta - Goldwire

DT - Willis - Bethal - Tyreic Martin

DE - Demetrius Jackson - DJ Johnson - Patchan

In this Scenario we are gunna be 1 or 2 players light on the DL IMO - Hope we can land a Michael Thompson or 1 other DT late

If Norton returns -

Yes you. If you did, you'd know why RJ is most likely gone
If you knew anything, you'd know it's a mistake financially for an underclassmen DT of his caliber to declare early. But feel free to show me examples of being wrong.

Everyone overrates RJ and Norton because we've had dog **** at DT for the past decade plus. They are very talent and haven't reached potential. Wilkins is an example of a DL declaring early.

This! I miss the days where guys like Wilkins were primarily the only players that declared early and you could actually redshirt guys. One of the reasons the NFL gets less watchable every year. Quality keeps going down

MUCH rather see DJ or Garvin start over Jackson. High ceiling players.
If both leave I think we'll add Briggs.

D jack was playing at a high leVel when he got hurt, although I’m sure being a senior trying to get drafted as high as possible won’t motivate him to improve even more.

Yeah no way that guy is starting

You sure about that? D-Jack doesn't have Garvin's ceiling, but he's still pretty good.

Doesn't matter. The top 3 DE's will all play a lot!

DJack also plays inside on pass downs.

Doesn't matter who starts. The backups are going to play a TON. Rotation and depth means far more than who simply starts.
