Film Review: QB Tyler Van Dyke

Some of those throws while rolling to his left... Extremely impressive. His downfield throws just look effortless.

I love this kid. Best arm we've had a long time. He's a good athlete for that size. Saw Garcia play a few times this year and it's my opinion he's a year or two away.
IMO, TVD is slow footed with a slow release and he's a slow decision maker. Don't see him ever starting at UM.

Garcia will have no problem beating him out.

The best thing about Tyler Van Dyke is that he’s a multi-sport kid. He doesn’t play QB like a robot.
I agree . I think his baseball Background shows when he throws while on the run !

You guys are way too high on TVD. He's not the answer and in a few short months it will be validated.

The highlights are TVD playing against real weak competition in Connetticut. He won't be able to handle the speed he'll be seeing at the P5 level and IMO he won't start here.

The good thing is this is the most stacked QB roster we have had in quite some time with a real OC. Future is definitely bright at the position.

If he gets the right coaching he could be a heck of a QB at UM. He should have received more playing time but then again that's another blunder by Manny. Given the injury to King, he along with all the other QB's should be given a fair chance to become the starting the QB.
What games should he have gotten more playing time? Outside of fsu and Duke, we barely beat teams down

And what makes you the authoritarian on football QB’s. You sound like you are bitter because TVD is getting some praise. Are you really a Cane or ******** Garcia?

It’s a shame the game where he could have gotten some action (Duke) he had COVID. King’s injury may be a blessing in disguise. Van Dyke and Garcia will get tons of first team reps in the spring. I really like both of them.

I’ve had the same concern. His competition looks SLOW!

I get having a different opinion on TVD, but how can you call him slow footed and then say Garcia is better? He looks like an athlete in a lot of those clips and that has little/nothing to do with his level of competition.

Definitely taking a measured approach and not anointing anyone, but I think we have a great QB battle shaping up for the early part of the season.

Some people just aren't happy unless a QB is from Florida, Texas, or California. Just because a kid is playing against sub-par defences doesn't mean he's a sub-par QB. Remember, he's also throwing to the same caliber players that are defending them. It's not like he's throwing to Randy Moss going up against Inuit kids.

I like his deep passes more than Garcia's, just based on film. I like Garcia's leadership, and well rounded abilities. TVD is no slouch, and is certainly not unathletic. ****, a kid 6'4" 230 is going to really be a problem when rolling out. He seems to really understand how to use the LOS to draw defenders up. That's going to be big in this O, in my opinion.

Connecticut isn’t top level competition but they have quality players. Besides, you don’t necessarily judge a quarterback based on in game results. A guy like TVD is highly recruited because of his size, arm talent and athletic ability. The ball he threw on a dime for 50+ yards in the air is still the same pass regardless of his competition

He's athletic amongst the Bershire Preps of the world.

Someone needs to throw cold water on the TVD slurping. I'm just the guy trying to keep it real.

Kosi and TVD get us nowhere. It's either King or Garcia.

Relax, Mr. Garcia.

Your kid will have an opportunity this spring to set the pecking order for fall camp @ QB.

There's very little film on TVD a lot more on Garcia. TVD's highlights aren't anything special IMO. Now, Garcia on the other hand stepped up in competition and balled out.

If you want to question the competition that TVD plays against, that is 100% understandable. However, for you to say that the throws he is making and ball placement aren't impressive is silly. There are a bunch of off balance, touch, velocity, and perfect ball placement throws in his film. You can still like Garcia better as that is your preference but don't be ridiculous

Big Ben, Allen from Buffalo Bills, Wentz from Philadelphia all played as bad or worse competition in highschool. I think their WRs being slower, and creating less separation actually makes these smaller school guys more accurate in the long run.
