Expected defensive attack from UNC

Brevin I believe caught a TE screen on the first or Second series in the UF game
It was the first series and I wouldn’t call it a TE screen, but he did release and catch a 1 yard throw that enabled him to get into space. I won’t address the fumble at the end of the play. It lead to a FG on the next play.

Something to consider...why show all your bag of tricks first game of season? The game plan they had was good enough against UF. I suspect we will see more variations as the season progresses.
I agree, but we definitely didn’t show any bag of tricks. A screen of any type is simply keeping the defense honest.

I think the big key for UNC will be if they’re able to stop the run with out flooding the box. If they have to pack the box to stop it watch for a play action or quick three step drop deep shot to jt. Expecting a big offensive game for us

This game will come down to the matchup of Enos vs Jay Bateman.

They're not going to load the box & bring 5-6 rushers, they're going to sit back in Zone & allow their Safeties to jump routes & survey the field trying to collapse everything underneath.

Enos will do Jarren & himself a favor by utilizing lots of Zone buster concepts & working the shallow cross heavy.

UNC relies heavily on their LB group to bring pressure, out of the 3 sacks they got against South Car only 1 of them actually came from a DLineman, the rest was from Blitzing LB's.

Their entire secondary is predicated on the Safeties making the reads, the CB's are weak IMO & simply there to just be a placeholder while the S's read the QB's all day.

I'm not seeing the tough matchup that everybody else is seeing, I think there's a clear gap in talent between the 2 teams & to me it comes down to can Enos not be so adherent to sticking with a pre-scripted game plan & make adjustments on the fly to give the Offense a chance to survive.

If Enos is willing to be aggressive vs Bateman we'll do the same thing Boise St did to FSU & force them to make the decision of if they have enough heart & gas in the tank to keep up. If we play conservative we'll play right into UNC's hands & make this game much harder than it needs to be.

What I wanna know is how far is Enos willing to go to win this game? How much will he go unconventional & be willing to call plays that aren't predictable & easily schemed against? After the UF game he said he knew everything they were doing Defensively & that their secondary played a lot more soft Zone than he expected. What I'm waiting to see is if he's the kind of coach that will simply stick with doing the same thing over & over again regardless of the outcome or will he switch it up & be willing to throw the kitchen sink at a Defense if that's what the game calls for. Is he a "the play sheet is always right" kinda coach or is he a "fck it lets go with what works" in the moment type?

I think people forget that South Car was winning the game 20-9 going into the 4th quarter, this wasn't some dominant performance by UNC, they came back & won because 1) Muschamp is a corch & because 2) they essentially let them comeback & win.

This game IMO is all about the Coaches; if they can motivate our boys to play ****ed off Football & walk into Chapel Hill with the unrelenting mentality that we're not leaving with a Loss, then we'll be fine, if we show up with this timid ultra conservative afraid of our own shadow type attitude then not only will we lose but it's gonna be a long long season to follow.

If I’m UNC I’m not sitting back giving Jarren a chance to scan, set his feet and be accurate. I think we’ll see some delayed blitzes up the middle.

UNC’s DC is a bigtime rising star, so he’ll have a plan. Whether or not they have the horses to execute that plan remains to be seen.
To put it in street terms, all teams going to bully our OL until they prove they ain't *****ez. You got to expect teams to attack our weakness, which everybody knows is the OL. In fact we won't know what this offense is capable of until they can execute.

Anyone who saw our game against UF is likely to overreact to our Tackle situation. ****, it might not be an overreaction to treat it as though it's on life support. In light of that, and based on the beginning of re-watching UNC vs USCe, here's something I'd expect. Let's see if we can get back to football discussions:

Whether in 12 personnel with Mallory split out, more traditional 11 personnel with Jordan, or some variation of 4WR, I expect UNC to show blitz often.

But then back out of it and drop into 7 and 8. It's been briefly discussed post-UF, but along with our vulnerabilities at Tackle in one on one situations, we also struggled with some communication on the OL and guys weren't finding enough work at times. A team like UNC, though with totally different rush ends/OLBs than UF, might try to force Jarren to calmly work a 3-man rush and make throws into zone.

Plenty more to talk about re: UNC's possibly defensive attack. Let's get to it.

Ironically the OL's game 1 performance will make the screen game much easier against UNC. D Linemen are keyed into how easily they get through the OL on a screen. If it's too easy, they know it's a trick, turn around and look for the screen. Since the UNC DL probably wont respect the OL going into the game, we should be able to hit some big plays out of the screen game. The issue with a QB like Rosier is that he couldn't hit the receiver accurately, blowing up the screen. It will be night and day with Williams.

Yep. It’s common knowledge that coaches won’t show wrinkles till it matters. Last week didn’t matter at all. Expect wrinkles in a division matchup.

After tha I expect us to go into a shell until VT game.

I’m surprised you didn’t know this
Yea you’re right, with the ball at the UF 40 with 4:00 min to go in a game that didn’t matter at all, Enos opted to throw a couple RB screens, create a chop block, 2 fumbles, a delay of game penalty, and a sack to set up 4th and 34 with 1:37 left.

He then designed a play to have JT 4 pulled down from behind to create pass interference. Then threw another RB screen, brought in Tate as a decoy, and designed another sure PI call on Harley to get a first down so that Mallory could drop a catch and Jarren could fumble one more time leaving a 3rd and 12 with 26 seconds left. His designed play for PI on Brevin didn’t work, so he thought he better have Jarren bobble the fourth down snap on 4th and 12 and earn the L at the risk of showing any wrinkles in the offense to to any of the ACC Coastal Division juggernauts so we ensure victories in those games as opposed to this unimportant season opener.

Gotta preserve the playbook at all costs!!

If Enos is smarter than he is proud, we run the ball down their throats. We should be able to put up 250+ yards rushing against these bums.
We'll see how good the Oline is - we only really had success running the football against UF when we ran from Wildcat, which obviously evens up the numbers (hence why everyone runs their QB in the Spread).

We have the potential to be a very good running team though, so we should commit to it for sure.

Until I see Enos do something "creative or unscripted" I'm convinced he is a "my way or no way" kind of coach.

We ghosted Franks a lot in the **** game, daring him to make a play throwing.

Overall that plan was very successful. If at 11:00 last Saturday night we were told Franks would have one big throw think we'd all have taken it.

I don't see that game plan this week.

They're going to pressure this freshman and see what he's made of.

I don’t know why you can’t get it through your thick skull, pal

Coaches have been saving playbooks at Miami for decades.

I agree with pretty much everything...
The concerning this what you mentioned about Enos. Hearing the potential of stubbornness brings back nightmares from Richt and Donofrio. Hopefully he gets his head out the sand bc if we wanted just a good opening sequence we could of hired James Coley Again.

Also our coaches shouldn't even have to motivate. We played like *** against UF. Our record since we started 10-0 in 17 is ***. Our players should simply want to kill these fools at NC. IF there is any leadership and balls on this team, we should skull **** UNC

It all comes down to play calling. I know Enos is the expert, but why we never ran a TE screen last week, is ridiculous! If teams are going blitz like FL did, simply allow our TEs to show the block and then release underneath. No LB in the country can cover them, especially if they are crossing underneath on a screen.

After the first drive they adjusted and got pressure from the front 4 and SHOWING blitz but then dropping into coverage.

Someone said in here somewhere that the LBs delayed blitzed when they saw their assignment (RB) staying in to block.

Miami's #1 defensive priority against UF was QB contain. We didn't even have our best pass rushing lineup in for about 95% of the game. UNC will be a treat to watch. I predict the Miami D gets a minimum of five sacks and 2 INTs on this true freshman QB.

Personally, I'd blitz the fck out of Miami until they made me pay. Williams is potentially dangerous if he feels comfortable, so as a D the last thing you want is to give him time. I'm saying blitz because I assume they don't have the athletes to pressure us like uf did. Maybe you want to start off rushing 4 and see if you can get home, but whatever it takes, I'd make sure I was getting pressure.
