Expected defensive attack from UNC

Expected defensive attack from UNC

LuCane
Anyone who saw our game against UF is likely to overreact to our Tackle situation. ****, it might not be an overreaction to treat it as though it's on life support. In light of that, and based on the beginning of re-watching UNC vs USCe, here's something I'd expect. Let's see if we can get back to football discussions:

Whether in 12 personnel with Mallory split out, more traditional 11 personnel with Jordan, or some variation of 4WR, I expect UNC to show blitz often.

But then back out of it and drop into 7 and 8. It's been briefly discussed post-UF, but along with our vulnerabilities at Tackle in one on one situations, we also struggled with some communication on the OL and guys weren't finding enough work at times. A team like UNC, though with totally different rush ends/OLBs than UF, might try to force Jarren to calmly work a 3-man rush and make throws into zone.

Plenty more to talk about re: UNC's possibly defensive attack. Let's get to it.

If I’m UNC I’m not sitting back giving Jarren a chance to scan, set his feet and be accurate. I think we’ll see some delayed blitzes up the middle.

UNC’s DC is a bigtime rising star, so he’ll have a plan. Whether or not they have the horses to execute that plan remains to be seen.

It all comes down to play calling. I know Enos is the expert, but why we never ran a TE screen last week, is ridiculous! If teams are going blitz like FL did, simply allow our TEs to show the block and then release underneath. No LB in the country can cover them, especially if they are crossing underneath on a screen.

Yes. I watched their game twice (snore) and they show blitz often and largely vary who the 4th rush defender is and many times it was the slot CB. Another thing they did was a lot of single high with zone underneath to take away short throws and kill the run game all in one swoop. Their DL wasn't amazing, but athletic enough to cause pressure with 4.
Who knows if the plan will be the same this week, but I would at least expect them to try 4 man rushes with different looks

It’s not giving him time to set his feet and scan. It’s the likely belief (their belief) they can get to Jarren with 3 or 4 rushers.

I think almost for sure, as you said, we’ll see them copy UF’s delayed LB blitzes, which requires communication and coordination post-snap. They could then send 4, and drop 7.

UNC is going to blitz the **** out of us. Bad tackles + a Qb who holds on to the ball to long could make this a contest.
That’s not how’s UF most effectively got to us. If they sell out blitzing, they’re fools. Hope so.

Why send the house when you can beat our RT straight up? Why show and send blitz when you can send your ‘backer on a delay and confuse the **** out of a bunch of kids?

Right. 3-4 man rushes from varying launch points is what I’d expect. Maybe they go nuts and send 5-6. That’d be an opportunity for Enos and Jarren.

I think UNC has to blitz a lot to have any chance of slowing us down. If they drop into zones too often jarren is accurate enough to make them pay or pick up yards with his legs on a scramble. Enos needs to go back to heavy 12 personnel and utilize more of those empty sets he showed early vs UF but for whatever reason decided not to go back to later in the game. I would also love to see deejay or tate actually pass it from a wildcat look.

That’s why the screen was invented. A good OC doesn’t allow the defense to dictate the play calling. We all know the weakness of our team, now use it to our advantage.

We better have an answer for Strowbridge because I think he’s similar in ability to Daphne Zuniga. I don’t think they have anyone close to Greentard though, so I doubt they’ll have the ability to consistently beat our 5 with 3 or 4.

Brevin I believe caught a TE screen on the first or Second series in the UF game

If Enos is smarter than he is proud, we run the ball down their throats. We should be able to put up 250+ yards rushing against these bums.
This is the game in a nutshell. I watched the UNC USCe game and if we run the ball on offense and stop the run on defense this game is
O-V-E-R!!!

Something to consider...why show all your bag of tricks first game of season? The game plan they had was good enough against UF. I suspect we will see more variations as the season progresses.

If they blitz they’re leaving their young CBs 1on1 vs JT, KJ & Brevin.

They lost 2 starters. Enos must use the quick game & take a couple deep shots.

Is Realus able to pass block? I’d get him in with some 4 wide sets.
