After concluding their 2026 Spring Game, quite a few Miami Hurricanes players went to the restaurant 'Titanic' for interviews on the CanesInSight show.
CanesInSight host DMoney and co-host Peter Ariz sat down with new Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Dre Jacobs. Check out everything he said during the five minute interview with CanesInSight.
DMoney: So, Dre, watching you all spring, you made a lot of plays, a lot of spectacular plays down the field, going up and getting it. Just how did you feel your first spring here at Miami?
Dre Jacobs: I feel like it went pretty good. The guys, they welcomed me in with open arms. They just made it easy for me. So I feel like it was a smooth transition.
Peter Ariz: It's a pretty loaded group, man, that wide receiver room. Talk about being one of the pieces in there and, what you think that that group is capable of.
Dre Jacobs: Of course, it's a lot of guys out there who can go and make plays. Our emphasis is just get better every day. We know it's competition in the room, of course, but we just want to see each other get better. So that's our main focus for real. We let the competition do what it do. We just go out there and try to be the best of us, try to master our craft.
DMoney: So one of the weaknesses, this team didn't have many weaknesses last year, but one of the things we could have done a lot better was going down the field. Now some of you guys may have seen this catch he had against Clemson. If you haven't seen it, Google it. One of the best catches of the year. But do you think that's an element that you could bring to this team is that downfield big play ability?
Dre Jacobs: Yes, sir, of course. Every team loves a vertical threat and I feel like I bring that to the table.
Peter Ariz: Talk about Darian Mensah, obviously. It was on display today for everyone to see some of the throws he was making out there. And you guys seem like you've built a good connection early on. What's it been like him coming in here and leading this group in the last couple months?
Dre Jacobs: Yes, sir. It's just his mindset. He just wants to get better every day. And if you see someone wanting to get better every day, you just follow behind him. You just do whatever he does. He's here watching film early. Why not go in there and that's your quarterback? You feel me? Like you want him to trust you. So he makes you better just by the way he leads. He doesn't have to say too much. He just leads by example.
DMoney: Dre's really elevated his situation. He signed with Florida State out of high school and now he's on the Miami Hurricanes. So we're talking about going in the right direction there. But, you're a Florida guy, right? So coming back to the state of Florida, being able to, you're used to this weather and all that. How's it been?
Dre Jacobs: It's been great. Like I said, like it wasn't really that hard for me to transition. I'm from Florida. I'm used to the weather. So it wasn't really that hard. It was just getting to know the guys and, getting comfortable with the team. And I did that pretty quick. The guys are, they're all just welcoming me in with open arms. Like I've been here forever. So it just made it way easier for me.
Peter Ariz: What's it like working against those DBs every day? Because that's one of the best groups it looks like in the country. A lot of different types of body types there. A lot of speed there. So what's that work like every day against them?
Dre Jacobs: It's just iron sharpens iron. They're good. We have good receivers. So it's a battle every day. That just makes both of us better. Like I feel like we have the best defensive room in the nation. So if I can go out there and make plays against them, like I feel like it'll be easy to go out there and make plays against anybody else.
DMoney: So I know you, everybody knows you can go deep. I know you are an all around receiver and that's where you strive to be as you continue the career. What are some of the areas you're working on to really focus on getting better over the summer so you can come into the season ready to rock?
Dre Jacobs: Just the beginning of my routes. Coach KB always tell me, like, we know you're fast, all that, but you got to get down. You got to be able to get enough room to use your speed. So it's just be more fundamental at the start of my routes. Just having a plan, just not going out there and just reacting. Just actually having a plan when I line up.
Peter Ariz: Talk about Coach KB [Kevin Beard] and, when you decided to transfer to Miami, I would imagine part of, you know, your decision was sitting down with him and him saying, look, this is what my plan is with you. So what was that idea of his when you sat down with him, and how do you think it's starting to play out for you?
Dre Jacobs: Well, when we sat down, I wouldn't say that he stated he had a plan specifically for me. He just let me know that he would let me be the Dre Jacobs. Like, I don't have to try to mold myself to be a different receiver. I'm not the biggest guy. I'm the tallest guy. So he just told me, like, he just wanted me to master whatever I'm good at, and that was any receiver wanna hear that. Like, I can't do some of the things that another receiver might do with a different body type, but if I master the things that I'm good at, then I'm just as deadly.
Peter Ariz: Sounds like the classic Florida receiver right there.
Dre Jacobs: Yes, sir. Facts. Yes, sir.
DMoney: Just the vibe of the team, right? Last year's last year. This is a new team. You're part of this team. Just what's that atmosphere like and the vibe of the team?
Dre Jacobs: That's a real brotherhood. We get after each other. We hold each other accountable. It's just a brotherhood. I feel like we're player-led. I feel like we have players that we don't need the coaches to tell us, hey, go in the locker room and talk about this or talk about that. We have the players and the leaders on our team to just put us all together and just have a conversation man-to-man, player-to-player, teammate-to-teammate.
Peter Ariz: I wanna ask you about some of the young guys in that room. You have Vance Spafford, Milan Parris, Somoruian Wingo, Tyron Evans, right? So you've been in the game now for a few years now. You're a vet. So what do you like about those guys and how they've approached things?
Dre Jacobs: I like the way our freshmen came in with their hair on the swivel. Like they're not comfortable. Like, yeah, we're right over there in high school. Their dream was to go to college, go to their dream college. They made it to college, but they didn't get complacent. They strive to get better. They on the jogs. They're in Coach KB office. They just, they're practicing and they prepare like veterans. So that's the big, that's the big impetus I put on it. It's a big difference.
