Don't blame Richt or Kaaya; this stretch was inevitable

When do we start blaming Richt for hiring his son to be the "QB Coach"?

Disgusting nepotism. The kid is unqualified to be coaching QB's at any level.

Richt's initial plan was to bring McClendon and Lilly over to serve as CO-OC's.

Not having Lilly around is really hurting Richt. They had been together for 20 years.

Hiring his son as QB coach was a really bad move and he deserves to be criticized for that.

Sure. Miami lacks depth on the offensive line. Yet, Richt's offensive playcalling is simplistic and predictable. Miami has been in position to win every game. Miami ranks 95th in redzone offense with 10 touchdowns on 28 trips. Everyone needs to be better.

Wow man, take off your orange and green glasses. It wasn't the last drive it has been Kayaa's inconsistency all year and predictable play calling that puts the O in bad situations that you are afraid to recognize. Yes the recruiting problems would have made us stronger and more competitive but that doesn't
excuse Kayaa missing wide open receivers or running backs that have little vision to hit the open lanes, or the insistence to pound the ball between the tackles with a lack of imagination in the play calling. This fall squarely on the coaches and poor execution by the players. What excuse does Malcom Lewis have for the bonehead play on the opening kickoff? Everyone in the world knows you don;t field that especially if you have been playing football all these years. C'mon man open your eyes and stop making excuses.

You have no idea what your saying. Learn to spell first of all and second of all this article couldn't have been better said.. We lack depth.. how do expect richt to do an excellent job when we have no one on the roster

Why can't you guys just accept it? This years team has been very overrated since day 1 of the season!

Terrible article, nothing but excuses.
What is the excuse for our 3rd down efficiency? The passes thrown were 5 yards behind the receiver.
Teams now know (especially) FSpuke, you just need to pressure Kaaya now and he folds like a tent.

The light is the reflection of the "shiny new toy" that is the new coach. For those of us who actually remember Coker, Randy, and Al Golden, we know that there are clear warning signs of a Corch, and Richt is putting them on display. His side of the ball is terrible. His players have regressed. The team looks scared, flat, and bored. The FSU loss hungover. His coaching staff is a hodgepodge of a few Miami level coaches mixed with several complete amateurs, including his son the QB coach who can't help our junior QB for crap.

I also don't understand why folks think Richt is going to be better here than he was at UGA. I'd love the explanation on that.

6 games...

Same team that got their *** whooped UNC last year. Richt is overhauling a team that got treated like a division 2 squad on multiple occasions. New offense, New defense.......cmon people this is common sense. Rome wasn't built in a day. People keep downplaying his UGA days like the Bulldogs were scrubs. Competed at a high level in a conference that ran college football during his time there, pls wake up people. Anyway Cane fans are so fickle, after we beat ND fans will start a GoFundMe to build Richt a statue. Harbaugh lost to Utah first game last yr. Michigan prob should've fired him. Goodnight

Yup, nevermind that this team beat the **** out of
us last year with a much worse QB.

This website is full of the I need it now generation. You don't think a seasoned coach in Richt knows what they're trying isn't working but the braintrust here only sees it? GTFO with that ****....bunch of malcontent morons.

Mark Richt is quite seasoned in the art of the 10-win-and-a-bed**** season. That will get him run out of town here, where he wont have SEC booster money to help him recruit and buy assistants to cover up his weaknesses.

He averaged 10 wins in the SEC. I know people hate to admit this but for the last 10 plus years, the SEC has been by far the best conference. 5 star talent scattered all over the conference on every team except Vanderbilt. To be considered 2nd best coach to only Saban in the Conference is pretty major. My dude that said he should just be CEO...UGA was better when he was calling plays. Bobo was decent though. Cane fans just need to practice patience. Acting like single women in their thirties, expecting marriage after the first date.

"Cane fans just need to practice patience. Acting like single women in their thirties, expecting marriage after the first date" PERFECT STATEMENT

what's the highest neg count ever recorded? cause this pos article should get close.

This article is ridiculous. Most (not all all) of the points are way off base and irrelevant. The blame squarely falls on Kaya and Richt. It really is this simple .... the defense has been crap for years, regardless of what you believe the talent level was or is on that side of the ball. Manny has come in and made it SOLID. NO blame for either of the last 2 losses can fall on the D. They are playing their #$%%# off. Are they making mistakes? Yes. Are they giving up some big plays? Yes. Have they held 2 big boy offenses to 20 points the last 2 weeks? **** yes! If i had told anyone on here before the season that we would hold FSU and NC to 20 points, you all would have jumped for joy and absolutely predicted a win. Depending on your point of view, Manny is either making chicken soup out of chicken ****, or getting the most out of his young players and getting what we hoped for (but weren't getting) out of his upperclassmen. Either way, he has turned this D around. Richt is not doing that on his side of the ball. His upperclassmen are regressing and the new guys (other than Ammon) are non existent. Kaya is bad right now. That is on Kaya and Richt. That has nothing to do with schollies. The argument that it does negates the fact that lesser colleges, with FAR less talent than ANYONE on our O-line, have torched FSU and NC's defenses this year. THAT is coaching. THAT is on your offensive leaders ... the one who calls the pays and the one who takes the snap.

This is one of the worst articles of all time. The defense is playing much better than last year despite losing oodles of talent and experience. The offense is playing much worse this year despite returning pretty much everyone. Coaching is the only logical explanation for each of these.

If the offense could stay on the field with any consistency the defense would look even better than they have. Way too many three and outs and way too many third and long.

I agree with you way too early to judge Richt but his offensive staff needs tweaking. I thought Lilly was coming 100%. How do you work with a guy 20 years and turn down the job? Unless you have a HC offer **** Lilly didn't even have a job!

Then you have the Jeremy Pruitt fiasco. He clashed with Richt although both dismissed it. There was an issue there as well. See how Pruitt is doing at Bama. Does Richt only want coaches who believe in his ideologies? I am Christian but I'd be damned if I don't pick the best guy for the job.

Mark needs to put personal feelings aside and do what is best for The University of Miami. He needs help on offense you cannot be out as a play caller for that many years and not have second in command with experience.

So it was Richt's fault that Kaaya got blindsided & fumbled the ball?? Problem with OL is more than evident & Kaaya's shoulder doesn't look fine to me but he's too much of a class kid to say that.

While I agree that the OL is a huge problem, Richt's play calling plays right into that weakness. Stop trying to force a power running game that is just not there. Stretch the field every once and a while to keep the defense from stacking the box, and get the ball into the hands of Coley, Richards, Njoku, and Herndon.

This is all BS, we had plenty of time to not only tie the game but win, but the offense which was supposed to be the stronger unit failed us yet again, against an at best suspect defense. The defense in the meantime kept us in the game when it could have easily turned into a blow out after 3 and out after 3 and out. Sure we got gashed for 461 but can you really tell me with a straight face that you expected to be held to only 13 points by any opponent on our schedule outside of FSU before the season started? We were expecting to be in shoot outs as the kinks got worked out with the defense, instead our offense sucks worse than it did under James coley, say it with me James Coley who can't even get an OC job.

This was supposed to be the game Miami bounced back.

Coming off of yet another heartbreaking loss against Florida State, the ‘Canes were supposed to come out and dominate UNC. They were definitely the favorites after UNC’s loss to Virginia Tech at home, and fans were ready to get the “block at the rock” out of their mind.

Fans clamored for a more “creative” offense after putting up only 19 points against Florida State, and were hoping Miami came out guns blazing offensively against North Carolina.

That didn’t happen.

Instead, the Hurricanes put up a mere 13 points, and fumbled the game away on a potential game-tying drive with less than 2 minutes remaining.

After the game fans voiced their concerns, pointing to playcalling and decision-making from Brad Kaaya as the reason for the defeat. Outrage spread through online forums and social media, as fans looked for a scapegoat to blame the loss on.

The fact is; however, none of the aforementioned people are responsible for the last two defeats. This years team is simply a product of the reality prior regimes created.

Over the past couple of seasons, Miami’s fan base began to coin the phrase “we have the talent, just not the coaching,” and in 2014 there was much validity to that statement.

The ‘Canes had two first round draft picks that year, and players such as Duke Johnson, Denzel Perryman, and Jon Feliciano have excelled from that class as well. What has been lost in translation; however, is that the depth on that team is non-existent today.

Al Golden was often referred to as a “used car salesman,” and once 2015 rolled around his pitch got old. Miami began to lose more talent than they acquired, and the cupboard turned empty after bad recruiting classes such as his last one in 2015.

The epitome of this statement comes at the cornerback position. Top prospects such as Nigel Bethel and Tyler Byrd decommitted once they realized the direction of the program, and a position that was a strength in 2014 became a glaring weakness two years later.
Corn Elder is playing as well as any cornerback in the ACC right now; but if you look otherwise, there is little to no depth. Richt immediately brought in graduate transfer Adrian Colbert, and shuffled the deck in preparing sophomore Sheldrick Redwine to become a starter. Redwine barely got snaps on defense last season, but due to a lack of depth he has been thrusted onto the field.

Al Golden’s past recruiting failures have forced players such as Redwine to play large roles they may not be ready for yet.

The depth issues aren’t just in the defensive backfield; however, they are all over the roster.

Miami’s offensive line was filled with first year starters last year, and Trevor Darling has been forced to start since his freshman year. Miami is among the nation’s leaders in number of freshman starters, and key positions such as wide receiver and linebacker are relying on first year players to make an impact.

On Saturday several more players got injured, and freshman who need development such as Malek Young, Robert Knowles, and Joe Jackson found themselves on the field when the stakes were highest. Although the coaching staff implements a “next man up” mentality, the depth simply doesn’t allow for success.

As much as fans want to say “you can’t just keep blaming Al Golden,” they must also realize Miami can not leave his shadow until Richt’s recruits enter Coral Gables.

No creative play-calling can cover up an offensive line with no depth, and no quarterback can lead a team on a game winning drive when his protection falters within three seconds.

So before you blame this stretch on Richt for running a “vanilla” offense, or Kaaya for “not making throws down the field,” realize Miami’s new staff can only play with the hand they have been dealt.

And the hand they are dealing with, is a Miami roster that has been depleted by a string of decommitments, and a defeatist culture that has stayed within the program for a decade.

Absolute rubbish and garbage

Kaaya has a complete inability to get out of his own way. I think we have the least athletic qb in d1. Dude is trash.
