Russell will take an official visit to Miami but has not locked in a date. He added he has not shut down his recruitment, but he is locked in with the Hurricanes.

I’m talking about building a physical, competitive team. I’m not going to throw around fake numbers that I haven’t researched, not that guy. I think we can agree on the fact that Mario built a winner on both sides of the line of scrimmage at Oregon.

I’m simply saying that we should trust that he’ll do the same at UM. I’m not saying that Russell will be C. Kancey but if he can be anything close to B. Dorlus I think we’d all agree that it is a win.

I’m in a trust but verify stage with this staff. I am not sure the NFL draft numbers match the hype around Mario’s recruiting and this offseason with Gore and still needing a DT, isn’t great.

It’s very early in the 2024 recruiting cycle so I’m not worried about that aspect of it.

As others have pointed out, the commentary isn’t exactly glowing so far.:..”raises the floor, career highlights, staff likes him” — all good things but the take away for me is friends with other players we want…

The game within the game… let’s see how it goes and keep building

Yall is H E L L!! Ion care what nobody says lol

Can we just accept the kid who wants to help us get better without shytting on him. I hope he does well here and proves folks wrong

Dang..no booty gifs🤣🤣🤣

We will see how much he wants to help Miami get better in a few months when roster scholarships get tight and they ask Russell to Grey shirt or take a PWO in order to make room for a more coveted 2024 recruit.

No. I have a severe disdain for taking kids we’ve been losing with since 2004.

How many times do you want to take kids like so you can figure out it doesn‘t work?

Losing almost an entire recruiting class wasn’t enough for you?
These are exactly the type of kids we have passed on historically who have blown up at other schools. This is a high productive player, playing at the highest level, in arguably the best league in the country.

They evaluated and think he can play at this level. A lot can happen between now and December.

He isn’t “explosive” athletically, but he has good speed for his size. This many posters down on him.

His tape isn’t very well put together and that does influence people’s perception of a recruit.

That tape was long. The things that stood out to me are he is STRONG at the point of attack. He was resetting the line of scrimmage constantly and eating double teams like a bag of chips. He also has very high awareness and a nose to the ball. He can set the set edge and cause congestion play side and runs down plays that go away from him.

The thing I wonder is why are there so few pass plays on his tape. On the few pass plays on there, he gets to the quarterback very easily. There should be more quarterback pressures. That tape doesn’t scream Dade County DPOY. We were very meh on Chris Johnson do to his incompetently made highlight tape and I am wondering if the same thing is happening here.

He isn’t as unathletic as Flagg. My problem with Flagg is he didn’t develop as much strength wise and hasn’t shown the elite awareness that made him a star in high school. If Russell’s awareness doesn’t translate to this level, we will be disappointed with a lot of “I told you so” in the forum. If it does, we will be pleasantly surprised with a disruptive run stopper who is sneaky good getting to the quarterback.

I really want to see how Chatz develops. People forget this is only his third year. I wouldn’t give up on him just yet.

Sounds a like a technically sound lunch pale type player, that would fit ideallt in Coach Guidry's Marshall defenses. But coach G is at UM now so he should loosing for better caliber recruits.

This is a very good breakdown of Russell's film.

Not being a downer here...but...

same thing had been said about Manuela and other previous staphs...
Zo and JT weren’t on those staffs. I thought the Russell type recruits were the reason everyone were clamoring for Zo and his evaluation expertise?!. We didn’t need Zo for the 4 and 5 star elite recruits. They are already identified and can be seen by everyone. It’s the tweeners in our back yard that have left the area only to become AA and all conference at other schools. If he was the only DT/DE then yes I would definitely scoff at this take. But, I get the impression Miami anticipates locking down Higher skilled DT/DE with ideal size and talent making Russell a take at the local pipeline.

Nailed it.
Highsmith and Taylor are supposed to be able to identify guys that are NOT 4 and 5 stars. At some point we need to let them do their jobs.

Fan micromanagement of recruiting es no bueno.

Just one man's opinion.

The lack of explosion was the most concerning thing that stood out to me. On the positive side, he's a high motor kid and he holds up really well at the point of attack.

He's commited to the Canes and I expect the staff will bring in a few higher rated DL, so I'm happy to welcome him and see how this one plays out.
