DE Williams: "Miami is out ahead"

JAG during his time at Miami.

Truth, but he has enough talent to make a roster in the NFL.

But, a JAG at Miami...and being real...lots of collegiate JAGs get a shot in the NFL...the NFL isn't about what you've done, its about what you will or can do. As is, Byrd hasn't had a catch this year and is Arizona's last guy on the depth chart at the position.

I'm not going to make this a Byrd thread, but, it should be noted that our last decade of recruiting Louisiana hasn't exactly yielded results.

Hope Williams is different, but only time will tell...but as is, LSU kind of half assing his recruitment isn't exactly giving me the warm fuzzies.

If he has enough talent to be JAG in the NFL he has more than enough to do something in college. The NFL is not in the business of just keeping players on a roster for fun (except for Tim Tebow), the kid has some talent.

As for Williams, maybe he is not good and LSU is right, maybe he is good and LSU is wrong. He has a lot of nice offers (I know some could be fake) but many are recruiting this kid. I would take him.

The first part isn't true at all...

The second part...also isn't true. Bottom 5-ish of an NFL roster is basically there for projects and special teamers. The difference between Byrd being on the active roster and Neiko Thorpe, Junior Hemmingway, and Josh Bellamy could be nothing more than strategy to protect their project from another team picking him up off the waiver wire to be their project.

Byrd is ______ (insert adjective here) to make an NFL roster now because of __________ (insert reason here).

Williams has a bunch of offers, that is true.

Agree to disagree.

LSU passed on Briscoe last year and it looks like they were right since he's been moved from DT to the offensive line.

Also Byrd is on an NFL roster.

A little too early to be calling Briscoe out, don't you think?

Already moved over to offense...

ehhh...we'll see. But, I've seen this kind of story to many times.

Agree. Even though it Is an early switch (during his RS year), DL to OL position changes don't often pan out.

Jeremy Lewis's relative success has me optimistic. Wish he had moved earlier.

"Relative success" is arguable. But like I said - moving in your RS is ideal but position changes usually don't amount to much (on best, the kid become serviceable).

His tape looked sick. I was convinced briscoe was gonna be a monster here. While its still too early to write him off its disappointing. I hope we don't get the same results with Williams.

I'd be stunned to get him over LSU

actually FSU mayb our biggest comp...

I guess you didn't see the part where he said, "LSU, Florida, FSU, and Alabama are pretty even, but like I’ve said before Miami is out ahead because they’re communicating me more and showing me a lot of different things,”

The garnet and gold glasses are blinding you.

his old, but new top 2 for some....Da U & FSU...and scheduled 2 OV in Jan

Barry Jackson reported that Briscoe practiced some at OL but will stay at DT. Think it might be a littttllleeee early to write the kid off, gents.

I don't get why some people think that just because some kids from LA haven't done well yet, that all of them will end up the same way.

Our coaches will not be outworked. Golden is doing what Urban did when he stepped foot onto the Florida recruiting scene.

These kids always worry me. If this is a kid L$U really wants, it will be VERY hard to pull him out of LA. It has nothing to do with what his "heart" wants.. .it has to do with $$$ realities. Most of these kids come from poor backgrounds, and when "Dollar" Donny Jackson (fictitious), or whoever, the owner of 20 local Car dealerships in Baton Rouge, and huge LSU booster, suddenly offers Mom, or Pops a nice paying job if Junior stays in state, well, that is how things work in the $EC.

Hahaha, so true. I went hunting with the son in law of the owner of a large dealership network in Baton Rouge last year. Heard some pretty good stories about influencing parish sheriff's elections with a bag of cash to a minister of a local church. Football > religion in SEC country, and that's saying something. Can't imagine how often that kind of thing happens with the local recruits.

I'm pretty sure Briscoe moved to OL just for scout team purposes. Just like O'Donnel to TE was for scout team reasons. Some of y'all need to chill on calling kids busts or JAG's when they're redshirting their freshman year. If you do this, you seriously have no idea how college football works. Go back to grassy and hang off DBC's nuts.
