Damien Martinez, a former running back for the Hurricanes, is joining Elijah Arroyo at the Seattle Seahawks after being picked in the seventh round, 223rd overall.

Martinez delivered an impressive first season with the Hurricanes, posting the first 1,000-yard campaign by a Miami running back since 2016. He served as one of the offense’s top contributors and earned All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition.

Martinez rushed for 1,002 yards and 10 touchdowns, caught 17 passes totaling 204 receiving yards, and led the team with 1,206 all-purpose yards. He saw action in all 13 games with 10 starts and averaged 6.3 yards per carry.

Not sure what his NIL was but man I feel he really made a mistake by not coming back. Good luck to the kid. I enjoyed watching him play his one year for Miami. I think he will find his way to stay on nfl rosters for many years and hopefully secure a nice financial future

I hope so. He probably could have made more or similar in NIL coming back than going 7th round and hoping to make a roster.

Probably also would’ve increased his draft stock too.

Nah. He had nothing more to prove. His body of work is there for everybody to see, and I don't see how his numbers could have improved that much if at all. He left at the right time. Running backs just aren't valued in the draft anymore.

And this draft was super deep which devalued it even more.. there were like 20 backs this class

Also definitely would of made more coming back.. last year dudes drafted in 4th round made more wit nil and the nil numbers are way higher now

I like that we have Canes on the same teams in the league

Really good, deep running back class.

He'll have more yards and touchdowns in his career than more than half of the running backs drafted ahead of him.

Anyone else surprised he went that late? I thought for sure he would go somewhere in the 3rd-5th round range. Probably should have come back another year, but hindsight is 20-20. I actually think he’s going to be a solid RB in the league because the work ethic is there.

Agree to a point but the NFL is starting to realize RBs have more value than they thought in the recent past where they way over corrected.

Also, if what you’re saying is true, why not come back and double (at least) what his salary will be this year through NIL?

If he comes back and Miami makes the playoffs, he gets drafted higher than the *** crack of the 7th round. One because teams that makes playoffs have a bump. And two next year’s draft probably won’t be as deep with RBs
