as opposed to a "Golden Cuban" which I think is illegal in most states...

He will stay at Miami longer than you guys think. His wife refused to leave Miami when he was offered the Rutgers and Pitt jobs.

A guy who was insecure and perhaps didn't know what he didn't know, would have never made this kind of hire.

Golden, ain't that guy.

We basically have a guy that could have been the Pitt or Rutgers coach right now, as our TEs Coach.

Mario really fell into a best case scenario after getting blindsided by Pete. Pretty sure Fisch will be back in NFL as OC after next season. Mario bumps up again to OC, and then waits patiently for AG to deliver us a NC or two and then heads to his dream job at PSU after the dust settles and O' Brien is 'allowed' to head back to the NFL.

Your first post is negged.

Golden isn't going to PSU.

Golden's next move is to the NFL. If/when that occurs and we'd get a chance at a polished Cristobal, that'd be incredible. I once said it would be unlikely that we ever hire a guy who's a first time Head Coach, so this would work. Like Lawrence mentioned, this is a ******* guy who'd be the mother****ing head coach of Rutgers or Pitt right now.

I can't wait to ask some of Pete Garcia's old buddies what the real story was here. **** is really weird. From the outside, Cristobal's termination makes about as much sense as extending Randy Shannon's contract.

Aside from Urban Meyer (and he took a year off), I can't think of a college coach in the modern era who won a national championship or two, then took a job at another university.

When Golden moves on, assuming he's successful here, it will probably be to the NFL.

Lu,
I think Peter fired rio bc he thought theat Butch was a done deal...no?

Don't know. I'll definitely get the real story. Just haven't seen anyone. If that's the case, he should be fired. You don't make that kind of assumption without a safety net. He got...Turner.

Bruce Feldman reported that Pete fired Mario "due to friction with athletic director Pete Garcia" http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/bruce-feldman/21534482/cristobal-coming-home-to-um

not sure what was the source of the friction? expecting mario to win with bad talent and mario went off on pete?

With all due respect to Bruce, I doubt he has a ******* clue the real reason for the termination. It's gotta be extra strange. Two hot-tempered Cubans threw coladas at each other type stuff.

Someone made the point that a good recruiter will not only be good at recruiting student athletes but he will also be good at recruiting quality coaches for his staff.
In the business world, a good CEO/manager is looking to train his eventual replacement, even if it never happens. A good CEO/manager does not want inept people that will never challenge his position. That's the only way to stay sharp, by surrounding yourself with other bright, energetic, enthusiastic people.
As for the staff, you have to believe that Golden was somewhat rushed and had to prioritize: replenish the roster or get the staff that I really want. I think it makes sense that he focus on the roster first, which he appears to have done. Now, he can focus on getting the kind of staff that will equal his monstrous energy and drive.
Honestly, I had always heard that Golden was a good recruiter. I do not know if saying the same about Cristobal is well founded. However, it seems like everyone refers to him as an ace recruiter. A guy like that will pay dividends in the short term as we wait for the NCAA cloud to clear as well as down the road. No one knows how long any of these coaches may be here. But as the staff currently stands, I really like what I see.
Bienvenido, Mario!

Both are literally monster recruiters. Al was an ace recruiter for Groh at Virginia and Cristobal was an ace himself for Coker. In general, people just seem to genuinely like them both.
