How do they plan on making us 80s style uniforms while simultaneously planning to make us their Oregon? Those two statements don't jive. Bull**** detector is ringing loudly.

Maybe the base uni will be 80s inspired with 3-4 "what the fvck are they wearing!?" Combos a season for big games.

I am pretty disappointed that as Nike's first ever exclusive deal they signed We were made an afterthought. They tossed us to the side.

I dont think this will be an issue at all. Several schools use brands other than Nike. Michigan, Louisville, Notre Dame, Auburn, Georgia Tech., Texas A&M, etc. And each school has had some sort of success in ine sport or the other despite not being a nike brand.

Money talks and despite what people say, money helps your program. There is a reason why oregon has been good. Influx of nike money. Miami wont get anywhere near that money, but the extra money can only help.

Also, my thought the whole time is that adidas will use the canes to expose their brand, which will get the canes exposed. Yes, miami has obviously been struggling, but they are still a national brand. Michigan is a national brand, but michigan is also based in tradition and im assuming they cintrol what adidas can do and how far they can take it. Miami will, much like oregon, allow them to go crazy with everything except the U. Plus the exposure for adidas in a major city cant hurt, especially one with such strong ties to latin america.

I'm a young buck, but didn't UM only have two combos in the 80's? Orange top white bottom, and vice versa for away?

@mattyports: Blake James said Adidas deal gives UM significantly more money, teams get more apparel, and Adidas is marketing Miami hard. Win-win-win.

And what good is that money when the powers that be at UM don't use it to invest in the football program, i.e. firing Golden instead of throwing away at least next season as well as at least two recruiting classes, wasting at least half of Kaaya's career, and creating a massive rebuild for the next coach (whenever he arrives)?

More tone-deafness from Blake James and this administration. Disgraceful.

I don't care if we come out in pink panties. I want wins cotdamnit

It really is strange. Presumably, Blake had some input and influence into making/approving the Adidas deal which sounds like a huge windfall for the University. On the other hand, he can't see clearly enough that the head coach of the football team is completely incompetent. Maybe he has been beating the drum to fire Al Golden behind the scenes and the money folks and the lawyers just won't let him do it.

This isn't meant to be a post defending Blake James.....these two issues just don't seem to make sense to me or fit together.

Because lack of money was never the reason they didn't fire Folden, additional income will not lead them to fire him. In fact, as long as people keep throwing money at them they'll be less inclined to change anything.

This will end up being a positive in hindsight. The nike gear at fans disposal has sucked in recent years in my opinion. Cleats are the only noticeable difference but from what I've seen from the US Army All America game that will be just fine as well. HS players loved the gear at that all star game so they have been introduced to it already, and adidas is looking to get into the ballgame with college football so us being in this position early helps as they drive our brand to show other programs what they can offer their program.

Reports are that players were having to wear used equipment etc. Nike wasn't holding up there end of their deal. I have no problem with Adidas making the Canes their top priority.

more money doesn't necessarily mean just cash. michigan's deal is valued at 8 million+ annually, but 4.4 of that is in equipment and apparel. the remainder is cash. i just want someone to leak the figures.

I like the deal.... if we are #1 for them then cool... cause Nike has Oregon, and Under Armour has Maryland as their #1... why because owners of those companies went to those schools... I dnt think it had to do with a 6-7 record.... if u pay attention Oregon gets all the love from Nike with Different Uni Combos as does Maryland with UA and everyone else gets just new Jerseys.... im glad Miami will be #1 for something....

wait how can we be the "Oregon of adidas" and have a basic design like the 1980's Miami? Not that I don't like the old design but seems like those uniforms and Oregon don't go together.

I personally would love if they go retro to the 80s with updated materials, venting, etc.

Pretty sure that they meant they would prioritize UM like Nike prioritizes Oregon, not bastardize the uniforms into 124,567 combinations.

Just wish the money was required to be use to hire competent coach and tired to record.

It is earmarked for athletics so it wont go to Uhealth or some other crazy schit. Who knows what they use it for though, maybe they were waiting for this money to can his ***, but I doubt it.

Pretty much the way incentives work.

Still, my 2015 is pretty much in the books as a great year if Blake's at the podium and says "the first thing we're going to do with the infusion of Adidas money is get a new coaching staff."

Maybe now our players can wear practice gear that fits instead of hand me down crap.

Supposedly worth 95 million?

Yea, I hate Flake, but I don't see how you can blame them for this. Actually spending the money properly is another issue

I'm sure that will be part of the deal. If Adidas was smart, there'd be a win clause attached to this deal or some type of pressure to hire someone that could win.
