We definitely did not get everyone in the secondary that we could have gotten but we still signed a talented bunch when you put the last 2 classes together. It’s considerably better than any back to back db classes we have signed in a long time.

Safety
4star gurvan hall
3star Amari carter
3star Derrick smith

Cb
4starTrajan bandy
4star jhavontae dean
4 star Gilbert Frierson
4star Dj ivey
4 starAl blades

The misses is why u have a guy like gilbert playing CB when he should be at safety imo....thats bad roster management imo

We failed to capitalize on what I consider a once in a lifetime opportunity of DBs last year. There is no way to spin it, especially when you see our defense frequently lining up in 4-2-5 nickel sets now.

Guys like Ivey, Banda, Frierson are all great - but there will be an opportunity cost we will have to pay when we play elite teams because of some if Rumph/Bandas misses.

Look at what happened to UGA in OT against Bama? They played a great game, but had a weak link at CB and got exposed due to bad personnel/poor recruiting. It was a massive opportunity cost they had to pay, and we're likely heading down the same road if things stay status quo.

The play was executed well by Tagovailoa.
He looked off the Safety. It was his responsibility to provide deep help on that play.
In 2015 UGA recruited the #6 Safety in the country.
In 2017, they added the #2, and #4 Safeties in the country.
Yes, your chances are better with better talent across the board, but lack of talent on the back end isn't what cost them.

A duo like last year doesn't come around too often.
Peterson/Harris 2008 were a couple of 5 stars. McFadden/Bailey in 2000 were 5 stars as well.
I don't think we ever had a real chance to "capitalize" on TC and PS.
I do think that recruiting guys like Gray early in their recruitment will help us going forward. There's no reason for me to dwell on players who didn't sign in the past.

I see where you're coming from, but if I agreed with you we both would be wrong. The 2018 SoFla DB class of PS2, Jobe, TC, Hall, Wilson, Frierson, Ivey, Blades etc. is the most elite DB class possibly ever. 2008 or the McFadden class does not compare. Further - you bringing up Peterson & Harris just reminds me how critical it is to get the elite guy, I would rather have 1 Patrick Peterson than 5x Brandon Harris (which is why missing on PS2, Jobe, & TC is such a squandered opportunity that we cannot just forget about if we want to actually make adjustments and get better!)

What adjustments are you suggesting? And not just replace Coach X with Coach Y, but what sort of actual recruiting would you have this, or any other, staff do differently?

The only real issue i had with DB recruiting last year is the staff did not see the writing on the wall soon enough, when if they had maybe Samuel is in this class.

I remember somebody said OSU will be a big competitor for him

They still maintain that OSU will be a major player going forward with Gray. DB’s see them pumping out first round DB’s year after year after year, that has a huge effect on these kids.

So we wouldnt be better with cj jj ps2 and campbell? We would have real um depth if we landed those guys the outlook would be way different as far as secondary is concerned anyone that says otherwise is lying

Lol u come off like cfb players are playing for 8 years in a cfb program?? chill missing out on ur favorite fb players all time has no impact on our championship potential. Our current group of freshman dbs will be juniors as well so bringing up depth makes no sense either really you just wanted ur favorite fb players on the team it’s okay lol 😂

Great question & I agree with you on Samuel!

To answer you though, I would make a bunch of changes.

First off, I'm not sure about the hire of Patke & Simpson. I would have hired at least 1 proven Ace Defensive recruiter after Rumph & Kool's failure to land elite targets late in the cycle last year. Hopefully, they work out though, but TBD.

Secondly, I would readjust Rumph's recruiting role. This could be done in a lot of ways. You could move him off primary for Broward or you get Hartley/Dugans involved on any elite DB or defensive recruit that we're going after etc. I also think Rumph needs to go to a couple sales seminar and check his ego at the door (e.g. his reaction to Henderson & reports that he's done with "divas"). These are not adults, these are kids - and you need a cool head to deal with them and expect diva behavior. The big reality though is we've now missed on our top DB targets 3 years in a row, so something has to change!

Ya I agree between Patke, Simpson, Banda (not so much Simpson who I do like moving forward), one of those needed to be a Sofla ace...The next Eddie Gran/T-Rob, etc...I think Richt thought he had that with Rumph because of his coaching and playing days (HS/UM/Pro) and then coaching days. And obviously you can't fault Richt for that line of thinking...It just hasn't worked out like that, Rumph's personality just must be very different from some of these HS diva types.

Gil can definitely play corner but everyone, staff included feels safety is where he ends up at eventually.
thank u good sir because your not allowed to have an opinion on a player if it seems negative for some reason. U have to worship the staff and its players and everything they do is gospel (sarcasm on)
@Brooklyndee my boy dee...... us not landing certain players has put Gil at cb or am I right or wrong?
