rad hired an assistant vp of athletic development and giving from Air Force which doesn't participate in NIL in may. 2023
Mike Ryan who was the first person I heard say this did say this week on the pod that Miamis NIL is humming now but yes we seemingly were very behind based on Rado focusing solely on that facility (which has yet to break ground I think)

It’s honestly true that our NIL is as strong as ever. In fact, the budget is slightly larger this year.

What’s been overlooked by our administration is that much of the NIL success was about being first to market. The competition has had time to build infrastructure and not only catch up, but far surpass Miami.

Add to it that teams that have traditionally sucked have grown their NIL to a place as to be a nuisance for the next tier down of recruits, so there aren’t even freebies down there for a place like Miami. Alabama it Georgia can get that tier for cheap because it’s them. For Miami, that isn’t happening.

So what has occurred is Miami is finding itself in a place where they are falling just short for the tier ones right now because they have a budget and aren’t doubling up the competition in NIL, while also having to fight for the second and third tier prospects with teams in that same position Miami is in for the five stars, of offering more for those prospects. It’s just to those programs, they’re more like plan A prospects.

The net effect is Miami getting squeezed into a middle space between the tier one and two prospects and falling into a bit of a miscalculation of the market this year.

There are two paths forward: regain the budgetary advantages they previously had, or win lots of games on the field and put players high in the NFL Draft.
Then we need to adjust our strategy for this year. You do what it takes to get the guys you want. It's his own fault with last years results, now we have to pay the suck tax. Do it and put a better product on the field and then we can maybe start getting the benefit of the doubt again. Mario isn't going to all of a sudden become a game day savant. He needs to have high level guys get on the field and start performing. We can't afford to have a class be mediocre at this point.

He said he was blessed to receive an offer. I don’t know if that’s feeling OSU (maybe more himself). Not even in a bad way. For WR, it’s the ultimate validation.
And this right here is why I'm not stressing any of this mess. Him getting the offer is the ultimate validation of a HS wideout but OSU came way late. Furthermore that OSU WR room is a crowded room...I'm sure he sees that and Hartline doesn't have the connection with him that KB has. He can absolutely come in here and compete for immediate playing time

The “first to market” part is a huge point

We weren’t the only ones to do that last year and you’re seeing some market stabilization this year as others have caught up and as you said, surpassed us

Luckily for us we did get in early last year and capitalized on it and landed a great class

I don’t know if winning this year will suddenly turn this class into a gem, but I do feel that consistently underachieving on the field just made our lives more difficult with the NIL than it already was

Perfectly put as always. I’d add that we probably over invested last year in time and $. Many people I trust told me we were behind on this class. Mario will stay relentless, but this is the most important season in a decade.

Feels like this kid wants to be at UM but may feel like he committed early, and still wants all the attention that goes with being a top uncommitted prospect.
