50 year old classic rock guy needs some education. What is a mix tape? Is this Chad actually playing or singing/rapping, or is the mix a compilation of his favorite songs etc? I want to understand before I continue listening

I respect Chad's pursuit of a producing career parallel to football. There's a 100% chance he's sacrificed weight room time or extra film time any assertion otherwise is naive. That being said, there are far worse things that college kids or athletes do outside of football. The kid was honest with UM in his pursuit of music when he signed his LOI and he clearly has the focus and drive to be successful at both.

So theres a 100% chance hes sacrificed time designated for football??? How do you know this? Do cfb players spend every minute of the day only focusong on fb related activities??

Maybe Chad Thomas sacrificed time he would normally spend at church, or taking a nap, or study his school work, or hanging out at the mall, or out at the beach, or getting some pxxxy or some head...

I dont see how its a 100% guarantee that hes sacrificed weight room time?? And lol at extra film time, hes a fckn DE not a QB how many DEs are watching "extra film" during the off season??

Idle athletes head to the Gym on their own time that's an obvious fact. The less idle time the less opportunity to impromptu workout or watch film. It would be crazy to say that over the course of 4 years he's never sacrificed any extra football time for music.....the same could be said for girlfriends, studying, family birthdays etc. There are plenty of guys who eat drink sleep breathe football, Chad isn't that type. He doesn't have to fit that mold, the mold doesn't guarantee success anyway. That's my point.
Idle athletes don't go to the gym. They do the workout the coaches give them. There are a few guys that go the extra mile, but that is more often the exception. Where do you people get your information?

LOL Have you ever been to a gym? Are you unaware that UM alumn fly in from around the country every nfl offseason to workout in Miami on their own? I really can't believe i have to argue this.
The stupidity of ignorance never fails. Yes, I know all about Miami football workouts and have intimate knowledge of the gym at the hect. I am telling you this from first hand knowledge. The coaches want the guys to do their workouts and don't want them doing too much more lifting than is needed.

There is ample time in the fricking summer to work on music or Chase girls while putting in extra film study and conditioning. You simply don't know what you are talking about since you don't know that you don't know.

you say that like their arent countless reports of UM players staying late or getting early to work put on their own.....cmon man.

A mixtape is just an album that is not commercially released. Think Bob Dylan- Basement Tapes.

Chad is doing both the music and the rapping.

Chad's future is in music not football. I am not a fan of his music, but understand its appeal. He wasn't or best DL last year, if that was the case he would have left for the draft.

Just because he didn't apply for the draft doesn't mean he wasn't Miami's most consistent DE last year. Nobody applied for the draft early. Chad Thomas is at least as good as Taco Charlton who got drafted in the first round last year.

Chad gets sht because you know what he's doing, but that doesn't mean nobody else has a hobby/girlfriend/outside interest that takes up time. Believe it or not, but there's actually a limit to how much football stuff is good for you. If you don't rest at some point the muscles you damage in the weight room won't repair themselves and you won't get stronger. So if Chad wants to rap while his muscles repair I don't see anything wrong with that.

I don't disagree at all. I was only pointing out the fact that it's stupid to say at some point he hasn't chosen music over football. Not every athlete is 1000% percent dedicated to their craft like the Kobe Bryants of the world.

If football all in requires 10 hours a day, he still has 8 hours for sleep and 6 hours for other ****. This means he has not sacrificed any football time for music.

Keep in mind that they have these things called days off and the weekends. Your view of this is straight up wrong.

Doing only what you're required will only take some people so far, that's my point. Chad obviously has the talent to compartmentalize and do well at both.

There are plenty of athletes who only do what's required and don't reach their full potential. Dwight Howard is the best example i can think of. Or what if Shaq was 30lbs lighter for the 2nd half of his career?

On the opposite side of the spectrum you could also say reference the Allen Iverson incident"practice? we talking about practice man".

There are reasons NFL contracts have offseason practice bonuses and weight bonuses. They need their athletes to do more than what's required to compete at the HIGHEST LEVEL.

SMH...10 hours of football is a **** ton of football every day and probably more than pro players put in. Do you understand how many hours 10 HOURS is? No one requires 10 hours. You can't take one word out of context and build to that dumb argument. I can't continue this with you.

Nothing is taken out of context. If you're saying he has 10 hours (a made up #) dedicated to football and 6 hours of free time all i'm saying is that some other athletes will choose to fill that free time with more football or athletic related activities instead of music. Why is that hard to understand? Why are you so deadset in saying that 10 hours is the absolute maximum potential reached?

You could google 100 sean taylor articles about how he worked out harder and longer than anyone else.

"That was the way Sean [Taylor] did it, too," Chris Cooley told me. "Sean always had a crazy workout schedule where he stayed late and worked out. He'd be up riding his bike and [working out] in the middle of the night."

or....heres another example

A few days later Kobe called him at 4:15 a.m., and asked him to come to the gym. They worked out for 75 minutes, and the trainer went back to his hotel to sleep before the next day's 11 a.m. scrimmage.

That's when things got crazy, from the trainer:

"This next part I remember very vividly. All the Team USA players were there, feeling good for the first scrimmage. LeBron was talking to Carmelo if I remember correctly and Coach Krzyzewski was trying to explain something to Kevin Durant. On the right side of the practice facility was Kobe by himself shooting jumpers. And this is how our next conversation went -- I went over to him, patted him on the back and said, 'Good work this morning.'"

'Huh?'

'Like, the conditioning. Good work.'

'Oh. Yeah, thanks Rob. I really appreciate it.'

'So when did you finish?'

'Finish what?'

'Getting your shots up. What time did you leave the facility?'

'Oh just now. I wanted 800 makes so yeah, just now.'

So you're saying Chad should be working on his jumpshot instead of his music?

Probably wouldn't be that helpful imo

Bro... there is not a quote on this Earth that you could produce that would convince me that Chad needs to dedicate every awake moment of his life to lifting weights, practicing, watching film and any other football activity in order to be great at football. If there is only 1 available hour for music, that hour is not an hour taken from football (your original premise).

Kobe has two girls and a wife that he met while he was playing. Clearly Kobe, the basketball grinder, found time to identify a wife and knock her up a few times. If he has time for that, Chad has time for music.

.......that's not what i'm saying. I never once said chad didn't have time for music. I never once said it was making him less of a player. I'm just pointing out the fact that yes he's sacrificed football time for music, a point people here refuse to believe. And yes it's POSSIBLE he could be better if he ate/slept/drank/breathed football.

You can bet if he was buried on Bama's depth chart for his first 2 years and was fighting for a starting job his music career wouldn't impress Saban.

Is it possible? Sure. It's possible that I will make the NFL as a punter next season. Neither are likely.

I also point you to the theory of diminishing returns. Others have tried to convince you that you can do too much football.

And I have explained why it is NOT a fact that he has sacrificed football for music. You are making that up.
