it's well established that elite recruiting classes are at least 50% 4 or 5 star recruits, and 50% 3 star or below The 2016 Blue-Chip Ratio: How close is your CFB team to having title-level talent? - SBNation.com

this class has per 247 composite has 10 4 stars and 13 3 stars (i'm not counting feagles), which is 43% so it's really close to that elite benchmark. it came down to missing on mcfarland and henderson basically, tho edwards would have thrown it off as well. so the people who are saying the class being elite hinged on those two players are correct, but the people calling it a failure are whatever are wrong (duh)

We got 10 ESPN 300 players.

FSU got 12. Clempson got 9.

Quit ing.

Coach Richt on WQAM right now.

Said they filled needs at many positions, but are probably not where they need to be at rb because 2 left and one guy they thought they were gonna get, they didnt get.

This!!!

And it took him several years to win the big one. Dudes need to stop living in the distant past. There's no **** fence when you have been bad for the last 15 years.

Yep. And when we were winning we rarely had top five classes. Our average ranking was about 10. Some of our highest ranked classes were our biggest flops. This class addresses plenty of needs with quality talent we can win with. One more CB and a healthy stud RB (Thanks McFarland!) were the big shortcomings.

UM was built on guys like Bandy, not pvssies like Henderson. Bandy is shorter and slower than Henderson, but I'd take him 100 out of 100 times over that guy.

UM's a gritty urban program built by guys like Highsmith and Bratton and Eddie Brown, not flighty flaky facquits who wear tight jeans and take a ton of selfies.

You can throw Thomas in there too.

I tried not to get too excited about him after seeing his highlights because y'know these things don't work out for us usually.

He'll be an NFL player in 3 years time. You don't see many people that can move like he can. He also handled his recruitment like a pro and you know he's not backing down from anyone in a fight.

Thomas is going to be a terror. He's going to walk in here and start scoring TDs right away. He's going to be an absolute monster for us.

I tell you what. If I was forced to choose between either Thomas or the combo of Henderson and Edwards, I'd take Thomas, and not think twice about it. I'm just crossing my fingers that he's got pads on September 2nd at Hard Rock Stadium, but the kid looks like he was born to wear Orange and Green. He's a "Who the **** is that?" kind of player.

Upvote Cane. No question. Lots of trolls old and new on the board.

Every year we find the 2-3 players we miss and hinge the class on them and them only. Every **** year. Neither CJ Edwards Davis or Wilson were gonna be in our top 5 prospects. There are guys we got that would have been actual huge misses. Vaughn has enough crank for all you to obsess over. Start there. Stop saying UF beat us for ONE POSITION. We worked them for all others. No one wants to mention that? We have just resorted to hinging this class on what we didn't get. Stop it already. This game is won in the trenches and UF AND FSU COMBINED didn't have the OL haul that we did. We took the top 2 Qbs of all three schools. We took the best WR in Thomas of all 3. Look at what we did do and stop saying this class simply sucked because they took a few corners from us. We got enough for Rumph to work with. He and Manolo will make these guys succeed. Enjoy it.

Anyone know Dabo's average class ranking over the last 3 or 4 years? I doubt it's been top 5, but maybe I'm wrong. He's evaluated great, especially on the DL, and has a great DC and great QB.
Somewhere in the teens I believe.

Clemson got 9 out of 14 total commits. A MUCH better percentage than us.

That DBU c*ap should have been replaced with Bama's pass attempts in the last 10 years. Hysterically bad but you know, WRU and "I wanna play with the best" LOL. You'd be better off going to GT.

Don't we play them in a couple of years? He's going to roast both of those punks.

Per 247:

2017 - 16th
2016 - 11th
2015 - 9th
2014 - 17th
2013 - 15th
2012 - 15th
2011 - 10th

They should clearly fire him, can't even bring in a top 10 class. /s

It's almost like player development matters, which we should know with Shannon's #1 class from 2008 that only had one 9 win season.

Thanks, man. That's exactly what I suspected. Dabo has evaluated very well, motivated very well, hired a great DC, and got himself an elite QB. That's a recipe for championships even if you don't recruit top 5 classes every year.

I bet Texas AM, over the last 4 years, has recruited higher ranked classes than Clemson.

If they even see the field. Most of the time when we have missed on a flaky South Florida kid they don't pan out.

It's also that the rankings are very skewed for signing big classes, which favor the teams that did not appraise well and have high attrition. This gave coaches like Golden a bump. At the end of the day what matters is the blue chip %, and at 45% we're solid. Need to keep that up and sign quality depth players rather than panic takes that will never contribute and are JAGs. Richt did not have any panic takes, which is a good sign, and all our 3* have high ceilings to develop.

Ready for the '18 cycle

Me too. Really hope we can pull some elite kids like Xavier Thomas, Lingard, Gurvan, and one of the dual-threat QBs.

You think we are going to pull Xavier Thomas away from Clemson and Muschamp?

Jobe, Frierson, Hall, Campbell, Lingard, Pope, Westbrook, Chatfield, Hightower, Thompson....those are the "elite" kids I have my eye on right now. And of course Kool needs to do his thing on the D-Line.

I don't see Surtain coming but I'd put him on that list too.

Again, solid but disappointing class. No different from Golden. Nine-win team two years from now

Hard to value your opinion if this is the read. This would be an A+ class for Golden. While we missed on several key guys, the players that signed are top to bottom legit players of varying degrees.

Check your facts. The bottom line is, Golden wasn't that horrible of a recruiter in his first full class (2012). He had a top 10-11 class. He signed Tracy Howard, Malcolm Lewis, Tyriq McCord, Duke Johnson, Deon Bush, Ereck Flowers, and Preston Dewey. All of those names were rated four stars or better by ESPN and two years later we won nine games. It was a very solid class but outside of Duke, who was really a difference maker? This class is similar. Richt, I believe, is a better game day coach but recruiting-wise, they're about the same.

Listen, I'm different from most of you cats on here. I'm a bottom line kinda dude. I'm not interested in the coastal, I'm not interested in the ACC, I want the crystal ball and the golden megaphone that we call a national championship trophy. I'm not gonna blow smoke and pretend like this class is some sort of game changer, it's not. You should not lose four out of five top sofla dbs to those c*nts in Gainesville. Just shouldn't. I understand that McFarland got paid by Maryland but you can't be put in a position where he ****es in your mouth the way he did after months of being a silent commit and not have a back up plan. OL was a good haul and you landed an elite recruit in Donaldson and nice player in Gainer. I'm not as high on Herbert as recruiting services are. I thought we did as good as we could at receiver but Devonta Smith not even giving us the decency to attend a visit was discouraging going forward. Cornerback was a need position and while I think Bandy was the best corner in south Florida, and Dean has good size and speed, you needed another guy with speed. Henderson hurts, Edwards....Not so much.

The top players in that class were great. But we signed like 33 ppl that class and 20 of them were straight trash. You need to go back and examine that class and compare it to this one or even last class. We have some top guys this class like we did in 2012, but more importantly these are all Miami guys. They are all Miami quality guys, top to bottom. And that's why golden wasn't a good recruiter here.

This doesn't make any sense. In one breath you say the top players in that class were great but the rest were trash. How do you know this class is full of sure fire studs? Dykstra? Burns? Smith? Etc. I hope these guys pan out but there not world beaters by any means.

Is Donaldson better than Flowers?
Is Carter better than Bush?
Is Bandy better than Tracy Howard?

Who knows, but to act like Richt cleaned up in recruiting this year's is horsesh*t. He didn't.

Again, I'm not calling the class trash but it's not a big-time class either.
