Miami set to hire J.D. Arteaga as head coach, first reported by Kendall Rogers of D1baseball.com and confirmed by multiple sources to CanesInSight. Arteaga has been Miami’s pitching coach since 2003 under Jim Morris and Gino DiMare – he also played at Miami from 1994-1997.

Sources told CanesInSight that Arteaga had been a serious candidate for the job from the beginning of the search, although there were other interested suitors. He is expected to take a step back from his role working with pitchers and will bring in a new pitching coach.

Sources have told CanesInSight that Arteaga has been forming his staff over the last couple weeks in preparation for the opportunity – there is expected to be a strong influence of coaches with MLB experience on staff. Former UCF coach and Miami catcher Greg Lovelady is also heavily in the mix for a role.
