Caleb Johnson commits to Miami

this is why the spring game wasnt anything more than a chance to be involved and support the program, because what we saw last weekend, will not be what we will be lining up against with Bethune Cookman on Sept 3rd.

The cavalry is coming....

He is not a super star but he is fundamentally sound.
Does not go for the kill shot like a lot of LBs these days but just goes in for a solid tackle and makes sure the player goes down.
Also, as stated by DMoney he is not bad coming in up the middle on a blitz.
Steele and Strong are going to appreciate that.

Watching that video interview with the UCLA reporter, he feels this is a huge pickup for Miami. He says that Caleb was hampered by a poor defensive scheme; calls it "a soft defensive front". He also said the UCLA DC had a poor rotation for the defensive players and a number of them "got lost" in the rotation. He doesn't seem to have a lot of good things to say about the UCLA defensive side of the ball.

He says Caleb is very sound fundamentally - excellent at pass protection and really stops RB in the backfield.

Johnson should definitely be on the field 1st down, no? Looks like the kid is the biggest mike on the team with the stopping power we've been looking for.

And then bring in Keontra Smith for passing downs?

To add to the UCLA writers evaluation: he says that Caleb was a huge factor in the lockerroom. He took on leadership role with the younger guys in the LB room as well as in general. Younger players looked up to him and he was a guy the newer players could talk to.

Just the kind of player Mario is looking for....

Caleb Johnson is jersey # 40

Johnson, who may have been a step behind on this play, finishes with pretty impressive contact to force an incompletion.

Johnson floating with the QB, being in good position to intercept the overthrow and run it down to the opponents 30 yrd line. We play the same QB once we play TA&M.

Playing SLB, working through traffic for a huge 4th down stop:

Johnson, blitzing, turning around and showing impressive closing speed for the tackle:
