Arizona State QB Transfer Sam Leavitt Signing With LSU

As reported by ESPN, the top quarterback in the transfer portal, Sam Leavitt, is reportedly signing with Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers after visiting several other schools.

The news came from ESPN's Pete Thamel, who mentioned on Monday morning that Sam Leavitt is likely to choose the LSU Tigers over other schools like Miami, Kentucky, and Tennessee, where he also took visits.

During the 2024 season at Arizona State, he passed for more than 2,800 yards, threw 24 touchdowns with just six interceptions, and added over 400 rushing yards along with five rushing touchdowns. Even though his 2025 season was cut short by injuries, Leavitt remained effective. He threw for over 1,600 yards, completed 10 touchdown passes with only three interceptions, and rushed for an additional 300 yards and five touchdowns.

Now, Miami will need to focus on finding a new quarterback. Whoever they target, they will likely pursue hard after missing out on the top quarterback.

This situation is disappointing... But we’ll see who steps up next.

Leavitt is a good quarterback.

There are other good quarterbacks that are and could be available.

1) Deal is done.
2) Offer has been made and waiting on final word from player. As much as we love to think Mario is in control, in the end, the player decides.
3) Medical was not as good. Offer still possibly made

Any of those could be right or wrong but I think we will get clarity on it because this is now game week and that’s #1 priority.

I would modify your list slightly.

I think we had medical protections built into our offer which Lane Train is likely countering by removing any medical language from the LSU offer.

I truly believe that this is the "difference" in the UM offer vs. the LSU offer, at least at this point in the negotiations. Total comp is comparable, but the Leavitts likely prefer not to have medical protections built into the deal.

Dawson will be going into his 4th season as our OC. If nickel, Judd, Emory, Coleman are unplayable at the P4 level that’s on him 1000%. Transfer portal QB is the way to go, but one of those 4 guys hand picked by Dawson need to be playable at this point.
