4-Star Miami CB Commit Kenton Dopson Reclassifies to the 2026 Class

Miami Hurricanes four-star cornerback commit Kenton Dopson is moving up a grade, officially reclassifying from the 2027 class to 2026.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback from Miami Norland (Miami, FL) originally committed to the Hurricanes back in March. Dopson was one of the top overall prospects in the 2027 cycle, ranked as a top-100 player nationally and the No. 9 cornerback in his class.

As a sophomore at Norland, Dopson totaled three interceptions and 16 tackles, earning MaxPreps All-American honors for his standout play.

Dopson’s recruitment has drawn major national attention, holding more than 30 scholarship offers from schools around the country. His offer list includes Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Penn State, North Carolina, and South Carolina, among many others.

Now set to join the 2026 class, Dopson’s move up gives Miami an elite defensive back a year earlier than expected.

I wasn’t advocating, just stating the obvious rationale. If the kid is as good as some people say he is, then the strategy makes sense and he’s not worried about this. If he’s not, then strong argument to be made he should lock in as much money as possible before he’s exposed.

Last kid that took the path that Dopson is taking is the kid that ended up going to ECU because of his girlfriend.

When there was true parity this would be how things worked. A successful team doesn’t have a shallow bench to let Tr Fr start. A terrible team has openings. It used to balance itself this way. Now we have the “suck tax” in NIL and it is working itself out in a similar way. Bad teams are coughing up cash to stay afloat.

The portal has proven you can flip a room around in an offseason it’s not the best but you can catch up with “misses”

Having said that I think the corners we are bringing in are very good and this kid would have just been a cherry on top… we will at minimum be bringing back OJ and Lucas outside with guys like slime and waters waiting to crack the rotation
