Miami Hurricanes four-star cornerback commit Kenton Dopson is moving up a grade, officially reclassifying from the 2027 class to 2026.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback from Miami Norland (Miami, FL) originally committed to the Hurricanes back in March. Dopson was one of the top overall prospects in the 2027 cycle, ranked as a top-100 player nationally and the No. 9 cornerback in his class.

As a sophomore at Norland, Dopson totaled three interceptions and 16 tackles, earning MaxPreps All-American honors for his standout play.

Dopson’s recruitment has drawn major national attention, holding more than 30 scholarship offers from schools around the country. His offer list includes Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Penn State, North Carolina, and South Carolina, among many others.

Now set to join the 2026 class, Dopson’s move up gives Miami an elite defensive back a year earlier than expected.

When this kid committed, was he ranked as like a top 10 national player?

I recall we had somebody elite committed in a future class. But checked yesterday and he was 69?

@DMoney Does Mario ask these kids to reclassify? "You've maxed out what you can do in HS, spend the year developing in our program, getting paid."

Seems like he's had an inside track on reclass guys where maybe other schools were playing them slower because they are still a yr+ away.

Not @DMoney, but he doesn’t. I forget the interview but he basically said he doesn’t want to interfere with hs coaches teams. He’ ok with it, doesn’t push for it.

yes #10 in his previous year, 2027

They all (or at least most) fall somewhat when they reclassify.
