247Sports ranks Lafayette as a high three-star prospect. Director of scouting Andrew Ivins has long been a fan of the future Hurricane and tells us why.

"One of the better pure football players in the Sunshine State this cycle," Ivins told InsideTheU. "The name of the game for him is rush, crush, and close. A really unique prospect as he's not the tallest or most imposing pass rusher, but he's got length in the arms and a super explosive lower half. I think a lot of schools got caught up in the measurements back during the spring months, but his time to quarterback is elite and he finds ways to rack up sacks."

Defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman identified Lafayette as a strong scheme fit with his aggressive style of defense up front that relies on strong pass rushers who can also play the run. Ivins loves how Lafayette complements what the Hurricanes are building on that side of the ball.

"For Miami, it's another fun addition. I think what they are doing on the defensive side of the ball is impressive. Asharri Charles is another power-based pass rusher that can get to the quarterback. Jaelen Waters is a big, physical corner that can play on the outside. Justin Edwards is a speed-and-space linebacker that can make plays in the alley. All those guys fit what Corey Heatherman and Mario Cristobal want to do on defense."

People are stuck on height but his arm’s make up for that, very long. The get off is as good ias I’ve seen in a minute . Pretty violent hands for being a more finesse pass rusher type. He about split a RT in half .

Did I see that he had a 6’8 wingspan…is that correct? Lol

Lafayette has a 6-foot-8 wingspan. He has 11.3 speed in the 100m dash and is the school record holder in the discus. He plays violent and he’s also a team leader with his energy and effort.

Rivals analyst Cody Bellaire thinks Oklahoma’s talented defensive lineman R Mason Thomas when talking about Lafayette.

“Pure pass rusher,” Lafayette said. “Got some real juice.”

“He can really rush though,” Bellaire reiterated. “He’s got a good little rush package and knows how to use his hands very well.”
