2015 QB Tiano Talks Miami Offer

I truly understand what wvcanefan is saying. I've watched this young man since he was in 6th grade (he was throwing the ball 45 yards with decent accuracy) and I've seen what he can do under pressure - he's a game changer. If he were at a school that had the personnel for a West Coast or Spread offense, he would be a 400+ ypg QB. Baylor just hasn't had it. When I had him we used 6 completely different offensive sets from option to his favorite, a quad stack spread. My play book contained over 150 plays and Nick knew, & executed, every play. I would still be coaching if I didn't make my living as a Clinical Psychologist, although I am considering retirement with a return to coaching - maybe the 'Canes need an Assistant QB Coach!

Actually Bama has a Clinical Psychologist on staff to evaluate all the players and find out what their buttons are to motivate them from a personal level. Saban is an evil genius that way and Al Golden should steal a page from his book, heck Jimbo Fisher did an hired the same guy (Trevor Moawad) at FSU.

You should send a proposal to AG, it would be a sweet retirement gig.

In the '80's, we had a sports psychologist on staff. Her name was Jodi Yambor. I think she's in the UM HOF for her swimming accomplishments. I believe she left when she married a swimming coach from FSU. She worked a lot with Steve Walsh and taught him game preparation techniques, such as visualization.

I'm only saying what I have read in different places about her and what she used to do. I think that's why she left some time ago. I guess we were never really able to replace her. Perhaps the successive administrations in UM athletics thought replacing her was a luxury. They always had budgetary issues. That's also why Dave Maggard fired John Routh, who played Sebastian and the Maniac.

I wish we still had Dr. Yambor on staff. I don't know if we have anybody doing similar work now, since I don't really read the media guide anymore. They stopped putting it out in hardcopy (another budgetary move, I guess) and since it's electronic, it's a pain to read it online or download. I used to devour the print version and could almost recite stats, players hometowns, heights and weights, etc., by heart.

It's early, but this seems to be another one of those situations where we're in fairly good shape until the hometown team comes calling. Over the years, I don't know how often we've ended up the out-of-town runner up to a kid's first choice. We were even worried about Kaaya's late offer from UCLA. Supposed they had offered early--we probably never would have gotten him. Hope I'm wrong about this situation.

Yes, I apologize. But I believe this will be the visit that gets him. He got here about 10 minutes ago.

Will he also take part in the Miami Rivals Camp Series being held at Guilver Prep High School on Sunday. It would be a chance for him to throw to the best talent in the country.

Rivals camp is pretty pointless.

Why is it pointless? Maybe it is for some kids, but this is an opportunity for him to showcase his skills in south Florida even if it doesn't attract all the elite kids in SoFla.

Yours is kind of a dumb comment, given that we're trying to sell this kid on UM and the south Florida experience, and his former coach, and a family friend, is on this board. The former coach and the kid are probably excited to go to any south Florida camp, so why denigrate it, especially when his friend/coach will read it? As well as the young man? You should be positive and perhaps suggest that another camp might be even more attractive to him so that he comes down on another visit.

People here denigrate everything--the coaches, the recruits, the players, each other.....it's poisonous. I wish recruits, their families, coaches and friends would never even read this board. If it weren't for the work of Peter, Tito and some others, and the intermittent interesting comment, I'd never be here.

Actually, I re-read and realized that it was a Paranos suggestion; originally I thought it was Dr. Addiction saying he would participate. I'd prefer to see him come down for a Golden camp and become familiar with the program and coaches. Sorry for calling it dumb, but still, I would prefer that people stay positive when talking to a recruit's former coach and family friend. Suggest another camp that might be better, and get him down here again. I think Kaaya came to camp after he committed.

Any chance to show off a kids talents is an opportunity for them and that's never pointless

Show the talents off to who? D1 coaches are not siting at rivals camps evaluating. If the kids want a real opportunity they will go to university camps with "real" coaches who actually coach them up and evalute. That is a real way to get noticed. Rivals camp is opportunity to boost your star rating and in a coaches mind- stars are nothing.

coaches watch film from the camps they also talk to the people that run them. Coaches or their staff also look at ranking even if they say they dont

Boosting his rivals ranking will get him more buzz and eventually a shot at the Under Armour Game or Sempre Fi Game. He most likely would not get an army AA game invite because they tend to get those out early to the Top QB's in the country. Where as the other games will take a fast riser. So it is not point less, it is strategic.

Not to mention the big knock on this kid is that he doesn't have athletes around him on offense to showcase his talents, where as at a Miami camp he would have the best WR's /RB's in the country to throw to. It would also give him a chance to meet some of his potential future teamates.

Attending a Camp is how Kaaya met LB Humphrey's who is now seriously considering UM due to Kaaya building a relationship with him since their meeting at the camp.

He ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! It was the best visit he has had. He loves the staff, facilities, and the offense. At this point, it is Miami's race to lose. This is a smart young man, a dynamic QB, a leader, and the type of kid that will bring class to a championship football team. Hopefully he'll be spending a week or so with me and my family this summer - gonna get him acclimated to South Florida Summers. Go 'Canes!

Very encouraging words Doc.... now what will it take for him to pull the trigger?

Have him come down in June and attend 1 or 2 Al Golden Camps, he can see what it would like to be coached by Coley. An even more importantly he can go head to head with his QB competition like Ryan Stanley and Torrence Gibson.

AL Golden Camps are June 1,7,8,21,22 ! They even have two day camp deals for $90 where he can go twice.

Taino was at the Atlanta Elite 11 QB Camp just before his Miami visit.

Travis Meyer A QB coach from FiveStar Quarterbacks said of Tiano :
"He had been getting High praise from Elite 11 coaches but he felt Tiano had Low Hip Torque, needs work"

The Elite 11 coaches said the following:
Nick Tiano, of Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School, was one of the better players at the event. Tiano has a nice build at 6'4, 230 pounds, but has a strange hitch in his delivery.

Cot **** you must have a ton of time on your hands, DBC!

That took me 15 minutes of reading and typing. But I guess you must be technologically challenged so it would take you what 2 hrs to read a 300 word article then post about it. Get a life or better yet go back to school an add a few more mental tools to your apparently empty box that is clearly leaving you wanting.

Do not high jack threads about recruits, an especially ones they will definitely read.

I've watched over 40 hours of film - from when he played for me up to film from 2 months ago. The "hitch" is just a hip thing. As he strengthens and loosens the area, it will allow for less wear on his arm. He may gain an additional 3-5% in strength for deeper throws. He is working diligently and when I get him down this Summer I can assure you that he will be the best prospect the U could ever wish for. No one will work harder than this fine young man!

So will he attend a UM camp next month. Also how is feeling that he is probably #1 on UM's recruiting board now, from the your post it sounds like something is in the works already.

Where the **** did you get that from?

It's been said countless times by this board's insiders that Gibson is the top overall player on our board. Their efforts to try to land him have obviously been unsuccessful considering he has us 7th and there's likely no way he comes here. But there's no reason to believe he isn't still #1 on their board.

As for Tiano, we need to aim higher at QB, IMO. I wish the kid well, though, and hope he lands with a good school.

Gibson was #1 on our board but the staff Knws and everybody Knws he ain't comin here....we can continue to recruit him and it won't matter much...after Wimbush and Gibson its probably, #1 Tiano, #2 Francois, #3 Stanley...we will knw more this summer t the camps...pretty sure we will nab a QB commit then....personally hopefully its Ryan Stanley...

But UM is vigorously pursuing another four-star dual threat quarterback: Baltimore-based Kai Locksley, who has UM in his top 10.
