Nice post. In other words, either Stuckey turns into a future NFLer immediately, King or Moore turn into Santonio Thomas-types, or we'll rely on a true freshman DT who is known for his raw abilities. All of this while potentially having the most dynamic offensive player in the NCAA as a Junior, a veteran group of WRs, a potential Top 10 pick at LT + 3 other 3-4 year starters, an NFL defensive backfield, a few NFL contributors at DE and a Butkus Award candidate at LB.

Yeah, this is the source of almost all my whining the last few years and particularly this last signing day. Lots of us (including you) could see this coming. Barring a miracle, this one crucial position is going to likely really hurt what should otherwise be an awesome team.

my sentiments exactly.

Hamilton will play DT next year and he will be a jr not a sr..

I've been calling for Jelani Hamilton to be moved to D tackle since he first signed his LOI. I've never been impressed with his explosiveness or motor. He does have a solid frame to build a D tackle out of. He's not the type to chase the play from behind. Again, I think he's natural size and demeanor (so to speak) are best suited for D tackle.

I could be wrong but I remember someone on the Canestime premium board saying that Jelani Hamilton was adamantly opposed to a move to D tackle. Perhaps getting passed up on the 2-deep at D-end will be a wake up call for him.

I think some of you are confused by numbers at the DT position. In our current scheme (4-3) we have 2 DTs on the field at a time, we don't need to have an ACTIVE 5 deep at the position (10 total DTs), we should be redshirting a bunch. What we need is quality backups and to develop the kids...so as it stands

2014 Depth Chart

Pierre (Sr)
Moore (Jr)
King (Jr)
Stuckey (JUCO)
Valentine (Fr)
Jenkins (Fr)

Then you have kids that could play DT

Grimble (SR)
Hamilton (SR)
Kamala (JUCO)

As it stands we have 6 Scholarship DTs and 3 More who could play DT. Of the 6, 2 of them should not be playing their freshman year. I think the safe bet would be to take 1-2 more JUCO, not because Moore/King or won't pan out but because if Pierre leaves early we are seriously lacking in elder statesmen.

So my guess is if we only count the 6 Scholarship DTs as the only DTs (i.e. Grimble, Hamilton and Kamala are DEs) then bring in 2-3 total DTs but at the same time I would cut the weakest link.

9 True DTs, varying in age group spread out. 3 of them can redshirt.

2014 DT Depth Chart (Hopeful)

Pierre (Sr)
Moore (Jr)
King (Jr)
Stuckey (JUCO)

Valentine (Fr) [REDSHIRT]
Jenkins (Fr) [REDSHIRT]
2014 Freshman [REDSHIRT]

Yeah, so, all resources should be thrown at another JuCo DT who can save all of that from going to waste. Please.

Why the sarcasm? Who is saying throw "all the resources" at another JUCO?

My post is about having the ability to redshirt kids and not throw them on the field.

Zero sarcasm. Must have come off wrong. I meant the nice post/breakdown. Then, described my own frustrations with the position.

Oh I share the frustrations.

Yeah we really need a few things to happen:

1.) Get another legit JUCO prospect in for this class - preferably Cory Johnson
2.) Have one of our 2 JUCO prospects be a very good starter for us off the bat (I think Cory Johnson can be this guy)
3.) Develop our young DTs into solid players for their jr/sr years

Stuckey didn't qualify at ASU will be attending University of West Georgia, seems to for sure have been an academic casualty.

**** that young man has some academic issues. ASU takes a lot of borderline prospects supposedly.

Here is the article about it.

Man we would be an awesome defense if we had closed on Keif, Bostwick, valentina and Stuckey. Plus the boys we got this year. Oh well! maybe Fines, Patchan, McIntosh, Moten, Hertelou, Wyche, Harris, Jackson, Thomas and Jenkins prove to be the best Defensive Front in recent history

How do you not qualify at ASU?? Bro all u need is a pulse to get accepted there.

Huh? Aren't three of your first four guys ineligible?

Would rather of lost him to Auburn and ASU months ago then him stick with his Miami commitment and find out 2 weeks before practice starts that he isn't able to get in academically.
