Zero Talent - ZERO

I don't get this mindset.

How is it a shock to anyone that Country Club Manny was running a soft program and when Mario came in with an iron fist, the weakest links on this team all broke?

Did you read the articles about Manny's broken culture and program? Guys bailing out on practice with minor injuries and still allowed to play on Saturdays? QB1 getting drunk, missing curfew and still getting the start against FIU? All that chatter about Manny being afraid his best players would bolt for the portal, so he just bent over and let the team walk all over him?

How do you think a team that was that mentally weak and soft was going to respond to an alpha rolling in and putting a boot up their *** with no lube? A place where he was gonna strip it down to the studs, and rebuild it from the ground up—running off the weakest links and only keeping the ones who could survive the tough in the trenches program Mario wants to build?

Yes, Gattis is a bad fit and needs to go and yes, Mario can't just build a ground and pound offense. Build the trenches like Georgia and preach toughness, but with some offensive innovation—no debate with any of that—but for anyone to be confused by how or why this team backslid ... no different than when Butch Davis showed up with his hard-*** approach and he had a divided locker room as some guys wanted to work and the other half liked Dennis Erickson's hands-off approach (which produced underachievers like Jammi German, Daniel Ferguson, etc.)

This isn't the year that fans wanted, but sure as sh*t isn't the year Cristobal wanted, either. For every fan who thinks they love this program, how much do you think THIS GUY actually loves it? You want Miami to be "back"—how badly does Mario want to bring it back, for himself, his teammates, his city and his program's legacy? Fans think they want it more than this guy? Stop.

Manny Diaz wasn't better at "motivating"—he had no rules or restrictions and the little beta let the players do whatever they wanted—while Mario went full alpha and laid down the law with a lot of kids who didn't want to hear that type of hard work-driven process from the new coach. Period, full stop.

We'll see in the next couple of years how "motivated" guys look playing under Cristobal, as "motivation" didn't seem to be a problem at Oregon.

This is a good post and counter argument. And i have to agree with a lot of the points given. You dont try to relieve Mario of all responsibility here. As someone who has been on the other side of this in terms of assigning blame for the backslide, this is commendable. Does it completely change my mind? Not sure, but it makes me think. And it gives me more hope that an improvement is forthcoming.

Is it really a talent issue? I look at our recruiting classes and where we have ranked the past 5, 10, 15 years. Then I compare them to other teams that do not have better recruiting ranking classes than ours (at least based on my memory- I have not done any deep analysis). I am randomly picking schools that are not elite, but here are some that come to mind: Cincinnati, Ucf, Baylor, Tcu, michigan st, Kansas st, okl st, Oregon st. Iowa, Illinois. The list goes on of teams that I don’t think have better players on paper (based on recruiting rankings). Yet, these teams are much better than us . Why? Again, I don’t think it’s talent. I think it’s coaching, development , systems (offensive and defensive), discipline, and the tone set in the program.

I believe a different OC with a different offensive system could have gotten a lot more from this team. I have some different thoughts about the defensive side because I was pretty excited about these coaches. I am reading / hearing that they are not a cohesive unit with a bunch of selfish individuals.

I am giving Mario a pass this year but he needs to make some serious changes across the board. There is no excuse for this level of regression.

How many players have we had drafted over the past 10 years? How many players are actually playing in the NFL?

I don’t necessarily think Gattis is the answer either. However, with this OL and group of WR’s, ANY OC would have struggled.

And we expected Mario to make all this competitive .

I mentioned countless times, I don’t see many with the will to persevere in battle more able to absorb the playbook at the level of whom is on our schedule.

When I mentioned it this board came after me hard very hard .

I told everyone here this will unfold for all to see when smoke a and mirrors were cleared out.

#1 example when past players of honor , battle scared with NC rings galore STOP talk to your players THAT IS A RED FLAG.

Imagine Restrepo here’s a player of exceptional talent pushing hi body to its limits making a serious run at being and NFL draft choice and he’s stuck on a weakened state of mind THAT CAN’T EVEN GET THE BALL TO HIM.

Brothers Restrepo should PORTAL ABSOLUTELY HE SHOULD.

But he won’t he’s team player , and he knows that in his heart staying will affect his draft position because he won’t have the numbers yet he stays

We’re hurting great players with high aspirations because there surrounded by players that just don’t want to get it because that road to championships and NFL is LONELY PAINFUL .

We have a DB that leads the nation in interceptions (6) they say that he is at training facilities before security opens the building training till coaches say LEAVE GET SOME REST.

Many times I told players on my D GET OFF THIS FIELD your gassed hurting my WARRIORS IN BATTLE , RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME. I’d go as far as timeout and I would tell coaches I cannot run your plan with this weakness amongst us .

I refused to allow sleep late Xbox players to affect my D PERIOD.

I never called them names NEVER I’d just say take a breather .

Besides the D Line. name them? And hopefully James W is in the box next year because he is a liability on the backend. Only good player on the backend is Kam. LB is wesley. Those 2 are hurricane caliber players

Bro. You don't think Williams would be a liability at LB? Williams scholarship should be revoked and he hit the portal to a G5 program. He's trash. He makes Ivey look like Deion Sanders.

All we had to do this year was just re-use Lashlee’s playbook, and we’d have won 8 games.

But some genius decided to use an antiquated offensive system that requires a ton of top talent… which we don’t have.
Look. You have to tear it down and install what you think needs to be done to develop a CHAMPIONSHIP program.

Mario peeled off the bandaid and you just want him to put it back on.

You can settle for 8 win seasons, but what Mario wants to build is a championship program.

I think people should give him time and save the complaining until year 3 if it becomes necessary.

With Nil where going to have to be extremely diligent with the players we recruit, that have to be good kids who are self disciplined and have NFL goals. A 18-20 year old with a 6 figure salary living in Miami is a recipe for disaster. That's where Alonzo will play a big role with his scouting background, he knows the type of mindset a player will need to play at Miami.

Agree, every coach deserves at least 3 years to build his program.

I don’t disagree with your questions. Very few in nfl, but it still gets back to development. We don’t have a majority of zero to two star players on the roster. We have three and four star players with poor performance on the field and few players in the league.

Not sure I agree any OC would have struggled. I am not saying we have anything close to an all star lineup but It’s about adjusting with what you have and play calling. Run up the middle three times in a row around the goal line vs something more creative?

I genuinely think Cristobal is shocked at the level of talent out on Greentree Practice Fields.
So he should have hit the transfer portal harder this past offseason.

Lincoln Riley has a USC team that was 4-8 last year (worse than UM) in the top 5 currently.

The difference is Lincoln Riley attracts top transfer portal skill position players with a wide open/high octane passing offense, while Mario Golden is trying to win with a Woody Hayes Stone Age offense.

We had EIGHT YARDS of offense in a half.

Iowa looks at that and says “Man that O sucks!”
-5 rushing yards with a running QB, 1 1st, and 1TO. The play calling was baffling and nobody looked like they wanted to be there outside maybe Kinchens, AM, and LT. Most of the coaches looked like Uncle Bernie on the sideline too.

That fact that our defense forced 3 Turnovers and we still only had the ball for 21 mins with 98 yards is absolutely mind boggling! I don't get how Mario keeps justifying this, "We just got to get to work" dude literally says this every week and nothing changes

If Lashlee were still here, the only talent issue we would be talking about is the offensive line. Even then, we would still be putting up tripple the production of this year.

Embarrassing it was , the announcers had a very hard time dealing with it making things up to keep audience.
Everyone saw it nationally we can’t hide it anymore and stick our heads in the sand .

NOW , for years following this we will NOT have ANY respect PERIOD.

get use to it for the next (3-4) years we can be undefeated we will be OUTSIDE looking in till we regain RESPECT.

We have to earn being HATED again , no one hates us anymore.

We are now only FOOD no threat to anybody at all.

So get big boy pants on for YEARS to come for mediocrity, getting it back will take a team of Restrepo’s.

Team is slow and lacks power. They're also ridiculously injury prone. The program has spent 3 months trying to play games to over come the first month of camp
