With Richt ruling out both Jordan and Mallory for Pitt, it leaves Miami with zero healthy scholarship tight ends. I'm wondering though, is this maybe a blessing in disguise? I haven't had a chance to really watch the entire VT game (I was traveling and streamed it on my phone but didn't see everything) but it seemed to me that the offense really opened up towards the end of the second quarter and the entire third quarter once they were forced to go 4 wide every down. Perry looked comfortable in the more spread out offense and the running game blew up after doing nothing for much of the first half. Is it possible, at least in the short term that the offense is much better off without a tight end? I believe for the long term, tight end production is crucial for Miami but at least for now, spreading everyone out on every down seems to be working.
