Year 1 Expectations for Damari Brown?

Graves just finished his true freshman year. I'm pretty sure he was 17 years old when he enrolled at Miami.

I'm not surprised he isn't quite ready yet.

Youngsters with talent flash but then make mistakes. It what reps and maturity do that gets them to the next step.

He is a long athletic CB with speed, and ball skills. He just needs to work hard, focus, and then in a few years could hear his name called in the NFL draft.

He has the God Given talent and ability IMO.
And this is the potential negative with younger prospects. The double edged sword of development is that there can be a lot of growing pains.

For a college coach, you spend time with the kid from age 17-20/21, then he’s gone with his best football way ahead of him, and you never really got to see it when he was under your roof.

Play the background initially, get some ST run against aTM. The gradually get 3rd team reps against the acc. About week 8 start running him with the 2's.

Haven’t seen anything from a young corner since Trajan Bandy so my expectations are nothing. If he plays cool, if he plays well I would be surprised and excited.

national award winner or bust.

i cant hear basketball wives GIF by VH1

What are everyone's Year 1 expectations for Damari Brown?

Wish he was here in spring, but he's on campus now and has a chance to compete right away. Physically, he's already our biggest corner (along with Jadais Richard) and should be advanced coming from American Heritage. His senior film showed a huge leap. Here he is against Jeremiah Smith and the others at Chaminade:

If he works hard/smart and is blessed with good health, he should definitely contribute this year. Hope he has a better career than that Cormani kid 😉 unless, of course, Cormani becomes a Cane some day 🤣

Honest expectations:

I expect he will be overhyped during fall camp, then see less playing time than that camp hype would dictate, followed by a board overreaction attacking either Mario or Addae…

I expect all of this, plus in ~10 months the board will be hyping a 2024 EE TF and/or recent portal addition, and placing him/them ahead of Brown on the depth chart.

Should be receiving significant snaps by November once he gets acclimated

Too much experience in that CB room for either Stafford or Brown to make an impact this year imo.

Couch - 5th year
Davis - 5th year
Brown - 4th year
Porter - 4th year
Curtis - 3rd year
Graves - 2nd year

That does not include 6th year senior Terry Roberts or the versatile sophomore Richard.

I’ve got Damari taking the usual freshman lumps but getting on the field some and gaining invaluable experience. Maybe 120-140 snaps at CB (not counting special teams play).

Anyone else enrolled for Summer A sessions?

Ready for the infusion of young guys

Good thing is if he is good enough he can play, but with our portal additions he isn't an absolute necessity.

Richard, Davis, Brown, Roberts help this room a lot.
