We have a very talented and deeply flawed team. The score is what it was but we came very close to ******** the pooch tonight. My hope is it was just one of *those* games like BC 2001. Not panicking but that was such a rancid half of football you can't help but wonder if it's time to reset expectations, particularly with the injuries piling up. We'll see.

Yeah. With the mounting injuries. Our O line has issues. Our D line is not A+. Meaning not NC level. We are sledding. I watched that Texas and Bucknuts game. Both teams are far more complete. And then LSU and Bulldogs playing full.

We need to heal up, and get hungry. Otherwise the top of the ACC and them Dommers will eat us alive.

That's the truth so far.
 
That’s why I always say, if our boys can stay healthy they will be fine. This is definitely a grave concern considering there is only one bye this season. We had about four starters get hurt last night on top of what was already out….Sheesh…

No your top players were injured. UM still dominated that game. When you are forced to play this many young players there will be some inconsistency with blown assignments.
 
LBs and nickel have 0 ability to cover.

65 can’t and some snaps appears won’t block.

10 straight screens into press sure helps.

These are not injury or assignment issues they are skill or IQ issues.
We can’t always rely on brute force or pure talent to win. Coaches need to show up sometimes as well. Especially when we do have a slew of injuries to cover up
 
It was 31-7 before the team lost their edge. This isn’t like the 80’s where really good teams steamroll everyone by 40. If you don’t keep your intensity, play with focus, or the coaching staff gets conservative you CAN get beat. That being said, the injuries are starting to become a problem too. If you think about it we actually got pretty lucky last year with the injury bug for the most part. Even if our trenches aren’t as good as last year with Mensah at QB this team should still win the ACC and make the playoff.

Said it all last week when everyone kept talking playoffs instead of game by game.

Wake also made adjustments. More man coverage and running more games up front which caused issues with the OL. The OL was a mess in the second hal and it wasn’t great in the first half.

Yup team lost a ton of nfl talent, veterans and leaders.

Hard to replace especially for a program building. **** even Georgia has shown that can’t sustain those loses and they have been recruiting top class for 10 years.

Miami should win the ACC but everyone thinking it is a forgone conclusion because of what happened last year is delusional. You still have to play the games and injuries are now a big big problem.

Hopefully Fletcher, Mali, Pringle, Moten, Mensah and Lucas can all be 100% by Clemson. Not sure if Cantwell is also injured cause he got no snaps last night.

**** add loften to that list as well.

You're right expectations are wayyyyy too high. We're supposed to win by 30 each game? People forgot we lost two games last year around this time.
Were a very good team, but injuries are really starting to pile up and replacing not only the talent but the violent edge we had with Thomas and Cooper is tough.

The silver lining is, we needed this.

If we don't get a soft roughing the passer call against us, we are taking possession around midfield after a huge Toure hit, up 31-7. We probably finish them right there. (Mid 3rd quarter)

This week against CMU is where you have to play with the oline. Cantwell has to get involved because I'm not thrilled with the interior.

The play calling in the 4th quarter was as strange as anything I've seen.

The injuries are exposing some flaws, but again, we probably needed to see it in order to address it. Lots of missed tackles in the 2nd half as well.. all in all, super weird final 20 minutes, especially by the offense.

This post hits the nail on the head. Our OL is probably 50% of what it was last year. Those 4 defensive players were the heart of the D and I don’t see anyone stepping up so far to replace them. With the injuries piling up, we may see a loss or 2 before the end of the regular season. WF took us behind the woodshed in the second half and when you start playing the elites of CFB they will capitalize on our mistakes.
 
Meh, lets see what happens with guys filling in get more practice with the 1s. This team is very good when healthy. Reserves are talented but not as many reps in practice I am sure. I am still quite optimistic. Give the depth a chance.
 
Honestly I really like how the D battled in the 4th qtr after having a terrible 3rd qtr. They got off the matt after getting knocked down and won the game. Especially the DL. They finally showed that potential. We basically needed 1 more score by the offense to make this the blowout it shoulda been. Some of you are panicking over a TD difference here.

In case you didn't notice Poyser was out for a while too. Fitz had to move back to FS mid drive. We were without 3 of our 4 starters in the secondary.
 
Expectations were that we had turned the corner as a program. The elite ones lose players to the NFL all the time.

No reason to panic yet, it’s a long season but last night was a wake up call at best.

2 NFL d linemen and 3 NFL o linemen out the door. People overlooked that.

Last night this team’s flaws were highlighted. The trench play is not there which is unsettling with that being Mario’s calling card.

Who is the homegrown leader of this group? Easy answer is Mali/Fletch but I do think you need team leaders on each of the lines to set the tone. Not sure who that is

Our Oline is awful. Let's say it. SJ and Max are bad
