Yea, so.. probably time to pump the brakes a little

The first legit DT this interior OL faces will look like Aaron Donald, and the first legit qb will shred Hetherman. It’s a must the DL gets home because this scheme covers grass, and its holes all over it. Not trying to be negative, but I trust what I see. This defensive scheme is not it.

LBs and nickel have 0 ability to cover.

65 can’t and some snaps appears won’t block.

10 straight screens into press sure helps.

These are not injury or assignment issues they are skill or IQ issues.
We can’t always rely on brute force or pure talent to win. Coaches need to show up sometimes as well. Especially when we do have a slew of injuries to cover up

You’re not “overreacting”, by calling it out. I’ve been critical of your game day evals in the past, but you’re entirely on point here. There IS a whole lot to improve here. The “team” is aware of it and that’s the good part. Time is also on our side, at the moment. However, the “team” is also aware that we are not optimum in several areas and that there WILL be things that will be treated as “do the best we can with what we have”…….that’s the part that concerns all of us.
I “ overreacted” after VT game two years ago when I said we have major issues on defense and I was told “it was a weird Friday night game “. Picking out obvious flaws doesn’t make me smart I’m just not blind. I guarantee coaches are saying the same in private.

Did I miss somewhere in all this analysis that our QB completed 24 straight passes to start a game and 35 straight over 2 games?!?!?!

Are we missing the forest fro the trees? UM has the best QB in all of CFB and it’s not close. If the second half of one game is the worst we play this season then we are in good shape going forward. Did I mention the best WR as well?

In CFB you can ride a few great players at skill positions to a great finish.
I’ve never taken a criminal case to a trial to lose to a defense attorney who “thinks” he’s a big shot. If I’m going to litigate, it’s because I’m going to hand the defense attorney his ***! YOU are missing the forest through the trees!

There’s a lot of people who have a lot at stake here, from an effort, time, and financial standpoint. We’re not working toward a “great finish” here, we’re working for #6!

This defensive scheme with this roster is not it.

Well, this was a weird Friday night game, but you weren’t overreacting then and you’re not overreacting now. You saw it after game 1 as did the rest of us. I can confirm the team is well aware of our status.

I don’t think fhe DL is as bad as people think. I actually think they played pretty well last night and not having Bain and Mesidor has affected Moten and Blount

It also hurts when your 2 top CBs are out and you have to move your best play ability DB Fitzgerald to CB where he doesn’t make as many plays

It also speaks volumes about the lack of CB player development at CB when we’re still relying on Damari while highly recruited CBs like Jennings, Ewald, Waters seemingly cannot play yet

I also think the offense needs another top WR other than Toney

63 and 78 are great OTs

You basically need a Bain and Mesi every year or it will be easy pickings…and that’s not realistic to have two edges like those guys every year.
I agree, but I am not saying Miami needs 1st round picks on the DL every season. The biggest roster issue forever, on defense, had been subpar linebacking combined with poor coaching.

I like Heatherman but there is only so much a coordinator or position coach can do with limited players.

Man the Lb play so bad smh, I knew those mesh concepts were going to be an issue. The youngins has to better.

It was more than a quarter, a play here or there it could’ve been VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. A dropped TD then later missing a wide open flat route that likely scores . They moved the ball really well in second half. Maybe I’m not acting smarter than others but more not eating my boogers thinking everything is fine. There’s a whole lot to improve. I remember the same thing happening here after the horrible finish at FSU last year then UL and Smu happened , I was “overreacting”. Seeing red flags the first three games and calling it out isn’t being super smart.

Btw just because you spend a lot of money on a team doesn’t mean it’s automatically good. Alit can go wrong especially when dealing with 18-22 year olds. Including chemistry and just choosing the wrong guys. Texas spends more than us every year and how many titles have they won recently ?
I think we're actually arguing two different things here. Your original point was that people were crazy for thinking losing Mesidor, Bain, Thomas, Scott, and the other starters wouldn't be a big deal.

Nobody said losing those players wasn't a big deal. The question is why you're treating Miami's roster turnover like it was some unique disadvantage when Wake had significant turnover too. Every team is replacing players now. Guys graduate, transfer, go to the NFL, and teams replace them through the portal.

And here's another thing: the people predicting Miami would win comfortably weren't just Miami fans sitting around making up ridiculous score predictions. The betting market opened Miami around a 19.5-point favorite, and the line moved to around 20.5–21 points by kickoff. The opening total was around 50.5–51.5, and it climbed to roughly 55.5–56.5. Miami's moneyline was around -1,400 to -1,600 late.

So when people predicted Miami to handle Wake, they weren't pulling that expectation out of thin air. The independent betting market was expecting essentially the same thing. Now, did Miami cover? No. Miami won 33–20, so they didn't cover the closing spread. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

But that's also why your argument doesn't make sense to me.

Miami was up 31-7 in the third quarter. Wake absolutely made the game uncomfortable afterward, and there were plays that could have made it even closer. I'm not denying that. But you can't use the last 1.5 quarters to erase the first 2.5 quarters. And Miami had opportunities to make that comeback less likely. There were self-inflicted mistakes, including a roughing-the-passer penalty that extended a Wake drive in the first quarter and 3rd.

If your argument is, "Miami showed some red flags and has things to clean up," I'm with you.

But if your argument is, "Therefore everyone who predicted Miami to win comfortably was crazy," that's where I don't follow you.

And the money argument is another thing. I never said spending $50 million automatically makes a team good. Obviously it doesn't. Your Texas example doesn't prove otherwise. Money doesn't guarantee chemistry, coaching, development or results.

My point is that resources give Miami a greater ability to replace lost production. That's not a guarantee—it is a resource.

That's really the difference between our arguments.

You're saying, "I saw problems."

I'm saying, "Sure, but those problems don't automatically make the people who expected Miami to win comfortably idiots."

Both things can be true.

Miami needs to improve.

And people weren't crazy for expecting a team that was favored by roughly 20 points to beat Wake Forest comfortably.

Tale of two halves if I've ever seen one.

First half, looked as good against an opponent with a pulse as we have in a long while.

Second half, was as bad as we've looked under Mario. 75 yards of offense? 5 straight 3 and outs? That's Gattis ****.

It's not the injuries either. It's the guys in headsets. Our second team shouldn't be limited that much.

We shredded their zone defense. Predictably they adjusted. They stopped having their safeties line up in the stands, and moved to man coverage. It was their last move before checkmate.

Our response is to condense? Keep an inconsistent TE in on obvious passing downs? Have a QB who is rattled operate in traffic?

If you're WF we did exactly you're hoping. If I am them, I am a lot more nervous about covering an extra WR over Lofton. We didn't stress them that way.

The result was we let them continue to play their game. If you don't sustain drives at all, your opponent will have some offensive success, that's just math.

The smarter football decision is to say, OK you guys want to play man? Fine, here's 4 WR, one of ours will beat one of yours and our QB makes great throws.
