X vs Z receiver

Traditionally X-receivers are bigger more physical receivers due to them being on the line and receiving more press coverage. Dez Bryant is traditionally a prototypical X-Receiver. A Z-receiver is off the line and traditionally are quicker and faster (which usually means smaller but not always) and you can protect them from press more with alignment and motion. A traditional Z-receiver is like Stephon Diggs or AB.

Roles of course have changed over the years and vary for offense and personnel. For example, we might play Richards at the X because generally they have to get themselves open and Z receivers you can run more route combinations and scheme them open. Could be because we don't have any consistent X-protype WRs at the moment. Could be we just putting our top 3 WRs on the field and making it work.
