2027 Wyatt Smith 3* DE from STA

@DMoney camp breakdown

This was my first time seeing DE Wyatt Smith (STA) live and I'm riding shotgun with @gogeta4 on the bandwagon. Smith is 6'6, 220, with long arms, strong hands, and a very projectable frame. All the movement stuff looked easy, and he was winning his 1on1s before exiting with a minor injury. His dad was Justin Smith (49ers/Mizzou) so he has first-round bloodlines. This reminded me of watching TE Mason Taylor four years ago in the same setting- it was easy to see the genetics kicking in. Smith is currently unranked but should blow up soon.

Seems odd given the school and proximity that we aren't showing more interest. JT has earned the right to do as he sees fit.
Didn't JT coach for a hot minute at STA?
Yes he did.

This is tremendously odd and uncharacteristic that he has no offer yet. We offered the STA kid who went to OU last year and Wyatt appears to be better than him by all accounts

Any updates on the staff's interest in this kid? Kid from STA with NFL bloodlines, great production against great competition, and ideal measurables at a position we should be having our pick at. Are we just not on him or is he not reciprocating interest?

I would be all for bringing him in this class as a developmental DE. I like him. Just look at the DE's visiting the pool party and others we are after. I am waiting out these Spring visits to see how this plays out. In my couple decades following Miami's recruiting, I have never seen it like this. So many blue chippers want in, hard to pick and decide where to spend.

With Asher Ghioto and Aden Johnson both considering reclassifying, I wonder if that is part of the calculus for why JT has held out on offering Wyatt Smith.

Seems like when D$ said we want the elite edges, we’re really laser focused on that. It should be noted that the other South Florida edge-ish — cuz maybe he plays inside sometimes too— Trevoris Finley, played his first two seasons at STA. Then one at Chaminade and will finish HS at Carol City.

We are pursuing Finley.

Finley on Chaminade above and Smith at St. Thomas below. Considering he played two less games, it’s hard to believe that there was another South Florida EDGE who had better numbers than 115 tackles (62 solo), 24 TFL, and 14 sacks; but there was.
