WR Vandrevius Jacobs

Would be a good add at a reasonable price. As an aside this is the time of year we get very dumb takes. We are on the verge of the championship game on the strength of OL, DL, and secondary. We have a chance to add some solid guys to those areas again but everyone wants to break the bank on a WR.

We have <250 yards combined passing in 2 CFP games. Getting the win in these games doesn't mean it's perfect.

WR is absolutely a big need. Break the bank? theres different tiers of that. Cam Coleman? Yeah that'd be crazy. Marsh? Maybe still too expensive. Ian Strong? He's extremely proven. Is that considered breaking the bank? I doubt it.

Not really. So because we are in the semi finals it means the offense doesn't lack any deep threats wasn't terrible at running 90% of the season, or it means next yrs offense and wr group doesn't need strong leadership presence and a legit outside wr... As well as a major TE upgrade? Lmao guess winning means your perfect. Also this portal is about next yrs team. Not this yr. You have to project next yrs roster, which the WR group is going to entirely be youth.

The good sign is South Carolina fans seem to really like this dude and wish they kept him. Hey if he works out that's great. But it's obviously riskier than Strong or Duff.

This dude at WR I like far more than whatever the **** the game plan appears to be at TE. I just think not getting a more proven dude is risky for next season, in a year we really shouldn't expect much to change in the run game since the RBs are all back and OLine is losing multi year starters...
I was saying that bc u keep making these long posts like Mario & his staff don’t know how to do there job & u don’t trust their evaluations. I’m pretty sure they know what we need. Jus sit back & vibe these next 2 weeks (hopefully) & let those Gangstas in the building handle their business

Depends what he's asking. Right now it seems like programs are overspending on WRs, driving up the price. If the price is right, h*ll yea bring him in.

Advanced Stats Deep Dive.
TL;DR: Definitely just an intermediate and deep threat. Has great intermediate and deep stats, but not proven at high volumes, so who knows how sustainable that performance is. I think this is a fine take. But his leadership skills and run blocking effort will be critical if he is the main guy being brought in to start outside. We will have a VERY young WR core next year. Definitely going to need another depth guy just for numbers sake. But I think this guy would be coming in to fill Marrions role except a better deep threat.

Top 10 Best WRs on Deep passes in P4 by Y/RR with at least another year elligibility and 10 targets: Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, Parker Livingstone (In portal from Texas), Micahi Danzy, Terrell Anderson (In Portal from NCST), Teddy Hoffman, Charlie Becker, Braylon Staley, Joseph Williams, Amare Thomas.... Jacobs ranks 19th.... Ian Strong is 18th. Jayce Brown is 16th, Isiah Canion is 22nd, Omarion Miller is 28th.... and Malachi Toney is 29th.

Top 10 best WRs on Intermediate passes in P4 by Y/RR with at least another year elligibliity and 14 targets: Carlos Hernandez, Bryant Wesco, Mario Craver, Junior Sherrill, Mike Mathews, Jeremiah McClellan, Nyck Harbor, KJ Duff, Lawayne McCoy, Tre Spivey... Jacobs ranks 12th... Jayce Brown is 21st, Jeremiah Smith is 26th, Terrell Anderson is 29th....

HOWEVER it's important to note that Jacobs did this not under a significant amount of targets. And these are the type of stastics that its much harder to keep high with more targets. If we did like Min 10 targets for Deep and 25 Intermediate, the names that are in the top 20 of both are:
Jeremiah Smith (Ohio St), Ian Strong (Rutgers), Amare Thomas (Houston), and Braylon Staley (UTenn) ... And obviously Strong is the only one of them in the portal...
Sounds like low risk and high reward, like we’re getting him right as a leap could be on the way. Would be an upgrade over marion imo

We did lack explosive plays, both in the run game and pass game. Just someone to take it the distance on the ground and someone to force the safeties back in the pass game. I think its multiple reasons. On the ground, the first part of the year was the risk aversed tactic which changed after SMU. In the pass game, I think its because of Beck's arm. He cannot throw the ball deep late.

As for going forward, i dont see them going after some expensive WR because they have FR coming in who they believe will do the job. WR is not some hard position to learn. Spafford, super fast and then you got the sizes of Wingo and Parris plus Evans as well in addition to some of who we brought in last cycle like Josh Moore.

I really think the key to unlocking the deep ball is to get a big arm QB in. It be great to have teams fear you going deep in addition to the run game.

I like this pick up if we get it done

That would be very good. This WR room is going to be extremely young. 4 incoming Freshman WRs which we expect at least 1 to earn PT, and then the 3 from this season becoming sophomores all expected to play bigger roles (well same in case of Toney), and Trader possibly returning and being a known not excellent practice guy... We need a leader in the room, which has been why I've wanted more of a Senior type deep threat like Strong. But if this dude is a really high quality character guy that'd make it an even better add as a deep threat.
With 6 WRs moving on, I really think this staff needs to go after Ian Strong or Omarion Miller to add to Jacobs. I agree with you regarding adding leadership to that room, I do believe Tony will be the alpha leader in that room even as a true sophomore, but a couple SR leader to go along with him will be great.

ight guys confidence1k says theres no reason to discuss things anymore cause we won 2 cfp games... turn in your phones and keyboards!

If we don't add any TE and just lose Schott, I will absolutely call that out as a moronic decision.

Sure but this is literally the purpose of this site, forum and sub-forum. To discuss Canes and College Football, in this case the transfer portal. You may not agree with the kid, I don’t many of times, but he is contributing quality info and an opinion that is a net positive to the site and its community. If this forum was just all vibes, it would be lame af.

insane acceleration. Top end speed doesn't seem off the charts, but with that acceleration he can separate early and quickly.
Agreed, he doesn’t look to have that power to hit that next gear. It is something he can develop. He would just have to intentionally work on it and put on some muscle.

A little bit more about him as a player, started out at FSU and transferred to SC. This season he dealt with minor injuries, so I do suggest if he wants to be more durable and play at the next level he should look at adding about 8-10lbs of good weight this offseason.

So you think losing Schott is that big of a deal? Or are you saying because we are also losing Bauman, that we need a portal TE.

I think we should always add talent, but I also recognize the need to balance funds, so I’m not into overpaying when we don’t really use the TE anyway. I mean for as little as we use them, we could just bring in an extra tackle when needed.

From his post visit conversation with Canesport:

“Miami, they’ve been on me since high school,” Jacobs said. “It’s back at the crib, I feel at home here. I already knew this would be the first place I’d visit.”

“KB (WR coach Kevin Beard), I love the way he coaches, his passion,” Jacobs said. “He is not trying to put receivers in a cage, wants you to be you.

“It just felt like a perfect fit.”

Jacobs adds that he’d like to make a decision “as soon as possible so I can know where I’m going, get to learn the playbook, get ready to grind for the season.”

Jacobs also stressed he loves what he sees from the Miami offensive system and that “I’d love to be part of that for sure.” Jacobs said this visit helped the Canes “jump the gun for sure, they got in front of everybody else. We’re just going to see how it goes, have a conversation with my family and see how they feel about the decision.”

This is wrapped up

A little bit more about him as a player, started out at FSU and transferred to SC.

@DMoney mentioned that he originally was at FSU in today's podcast. I missed that he portaled out of the dumpster fire in Tally. Smart move. Says something for his intelligence.
