WR talk

The issue right now from a ceo mindset is that at receiver and offensive line, even though we’ve underachieved, we do have ‘decent’ numbers at both spots. 8 scholarship receivers plus 5 scholarship tight ends makes more than enough. Offensive line, same deal. We have to COACH THEM UP and quit looking for some flash in the pan transfer to change the world.

With that said, it’s the exact opposite at the corner position. We have talent at the position that has flashed and shown promise, BUT SCARY THIN DEPTH. You almost have to use those two spots on this position or you’re setting yourself for major failure.
I generally agree with you but the reason they’re desperate for an OL grad transfer is because their starters are incredibly green and they have a lot of worthless depth. Yes, you want to coach up the guys you have but it’s rare you see a team trot out so many first and second year players on the line as Miami did last year. Most kids aren’t physically ready at 18 or 19 to play significant snaps. The line sucked last year because they weren’t ready to play. It would be nice to throw another senior starter out there to anchor the line while the younger guys continue to develop. As for depth, there’s at least three linemen who will probably never play a meaningful snap so a lot of that depth is non existent

Good point, with the tempo and 2 TE’s like we have I am sure they will be lined up all over the place! (at least I hope they are)

But is Mallory good enough to warrant keeping him on the field? He showed flashes in 2019 but he also dropped a bunch of balls.

Reading this quote from Lashlee makes me queasy because I don't think we want to be multiple. Manny brought him here to spread teams out and use our athletes in space.

"The better your tight ends are the more versatile you can be and play fast because if you don’t have great tight ends, you can play fast, but you’re a little bit limited and the defense has a little bit better idea of what personnel you’re in, what sets you’re in. When you have tight ends that can put their hand down, be off the ball, flex out like a wide receiver like the couple guys we have here, it really gives you a lot of versatility—not only to go fast, but to go multiple with the looks you give. One minute you’re in a heavy set, the next minute you’re in empty and you’ve gone fast.”

I'll pass on Black - even though I think we could use another WR.

Harbaugh's defensive recruiting at Michigan has been really good, but his offensive recruiting at Michigan has been pretty bad. I'm not really interested in Michigan's #4 WR.

People keep saying our wide receiver group isn’t good or whatever but bringing in a transfer will not help things or find out if that’s true or not. Yes Osborn helped on the field and off the field but at the end of the day it still hindered some development on the field for some of our younger receivers because they got less snaps. We will never know what we have if we keep taking transfers at certain spots never giving a chance for certain players to step up to the plate and prove themselves. Let’s let these kids develop for once

Thats a great question... Hodges seems pretty versatile. I like Lashlee’s point of being in heavy then 4 wide... LB or Safety will be singled up on Jordan/Mallory/Hodges

He'll see in the Spring what he has. There's absolutely no arguing that we needed a veteran WR in that WR room last year. Don't really see how that is even debatable. Things will likely be better with these guys having more experience and a guy like Payton emerging hopefully. You were also pushing for us to get Stevenson with King right? Tune switching

Tune switching? Im against taking a transfer receiver given other needs on the team as I believe we have enough talent there. Only reason why I mentioned Stevenson in the first place because people were talking up Keith Corbin, if we were taking a transfer from there I rather Would have Marquez stevenson than Corbin because he’s better and more explosive

also how they look in lashlees offense compared to what they were in previously. they may be more than enough to explode in lashlees system. im okay with waiting vs using an IC now on a WR before we get through one practice. CB and OL is where id focus on for now

We'll see after the spring. Playing 80+ snaps a game offensively, bringing in another WR who can help immediately is definitely worth it. Plus he has 2 years. We already know how much we've been stung by stupid early departures.

That's ridiculous. By that logic having Reggie, Santana, and Jones dominate snaps in 2000 hindered the development of Dre, Beard, and Sands.

Ivins reported that we only have 1 spot left. 2 if moise doesn’t qualify. Doubt we’ll use one on a transfer receiver after we just signed 4 and all 4 are already enrolled.

Damyum, that's crucial, all 4 wr's are already in, lol, they bout to put the press on a few of these boys that keep making excuses. Our boy Jeremiah payton though is gone be ready to start breaking lose soon, gotta give coach diaz credit for the amount of redshirts he was able to attain this year, that'll be real beneficial down the line for this program.
