Dorsett (Sr),
Scott (Sr),
Kidd (Jr),
Waters (Jr),
Lewis (Rd-So),
Jones (Rd-So),
Coley (So),
Berrios (Fr),
Brady (Fr),
Njoku (Fr) ===> On WR Right Now,
Langham (Fr)

11 Total without Gray

2015 WR Scholarships

Kidd (Sr),
Waters (Sr),
Lewis (Rd-Jr),
Jones (Rd-Jr),
Coley (Jr),
Berrios (So),
Brady (So),
Njoku (So) ===> On WR Right Now,
Langham (So)
Chatmam (Fr),
Gossier (Fr),
Spence (Fr)

12 Total without Gray

That is a ton of WRs. Even if we we're running trips every play (which we don't), that would be a 4 DEEP. Anyone think there are WAY TOO MANY considering there are positions where we're lacking in QUALITY TALENT/DEPTH and we have SANCTIONS. I am beyond confused why Kidd is on scholarship as well.

Kidd has worked his a** off and have been pushing a lot of the receivers to be at their best. He may not have the best physical tools but when you have a player like him that outworks most people on the roster you need to reward kids like that somehow. Golden sent a message that if you work hard and compete to the best of your ability....it will not go unnoticed. IMO Kidd deserves it

Sent a message to who? The other walk-ons. Did he cut another KIDD on scholarship at WR to make this point? We have way too many players at certain positions and not enough at others.

You realize we have SANCTIONS?

I get it but we're minus 9 ships and we have 11 WRs for 2014 (without Gray).

I understand what your saying...this was done last year so at that time we didn't have that many. All I am saying is Golden wants the team to know that working hard is not something that goes unnoticed. Talent is important but we all know that cliche saying "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" He busts his a** day in and day out and outworks the receivers on scholarship. It's not about scholarship numbers to Golden, I think he is thinking more along the lines of the right thing to do. Also it's not like Kidd is useless....he appeared in a few games last year and had some great catches in the spring.

All in all i agree with a lot of what you're saying about the numbers but I see why Golden did this

Let me fix this for your right quick:

2014 WR Scholarships

Dorsett (Sr), - outside
Scott (Sr), - outside
Kidd (Jr), - scout team/trash time
Waters (Jr), - outside
Lewis (Rd-So), - inside
Jones (Rd-So), - LOL
Coley (So), - inside/outside
Berrios (Fr), - inside
Brady (Fr), - unproven
Njoku (Fr) ===> On WR Right Now, - unproven
Langham (Fr) - not even cleared yet, unproven

2015 WR Scholarships

Kidd (Sr), - scout team/trash time
Waters (Sr), - outside (assuming he stays)
Lewis (Rd-Jr), - inside
Jones (Rd-Jr), - probably still LOL
Coley (Jr), - inside/outside
Berrios (So), - inside
Brady (So), - unproven, but sure, outside
Njoku (So) ===> On WR Right Now, - unproven, but outside
Langham (So) - unproven, but outside
Chatmam (Fr), - Does he stick?
Gossier (Fr), - Does he stick?
Spence (Fr) - Does he stick?

When you break it down like that, it SHOULD make a lot more sense. In the type of offense Miami wants to run, receivers are split into two groups. So we have 4 scholarship WRs for the outside spots, and 3 for the inside, and that counts Coley as both. More or less the same for 2015. Now, as far as roster spots go, there's "wasted" scholarships at every single position. Every single one. You can't harp on the staff for not recruiting the best talent they can at each position, and then cry when you think they are recruiting too many.

When it comes to walk ons being given scholarships, if you don't have that as a possibility, you don't have walkons. Which means you done have a scout team. which means your starters practice against other starters, which increases the risk of injury. Its not as simple as just pointing to someone who you only know by his name on a roster and saying "***** him. he's taking up a spot"

It doesn't make sense because 11 WRs on scholarship is too many with sanctions. Outside v. Inside, Unproven v. Proven, Quality v. Crap...the coach needs to be more efficient during sanctions. 11 Scholarships without Gray is way too many.

The part is bold is bull chit. First, even if we're signing the best 4 WRs EVERY YEAR (which we haven't) that would mean there are 12-16 on scholarship...WAY TOO MANY. Even if they're all Andre Johnson Clones, there will never be enough time or balls to spread around and we have other positions where we need depth/talent. Can Andre Johnson play DT? So you can recruit (the operative word is sign) too many and complain thereafter. Roster management is about creating the right amount of players at EVERY position, spreading out the talent and depth.

Second, there is no evidence we're SIGNING the best talent when kids like Lane, Rudolph and Dixon went elsewhere. If we're signing the best talent at least you can argue that we have the best talent. We can't argue we have the best talent because we don't. We had higher targets on our board, they were local and they went elsewhere.

As for walk-ons, that is great WITHOUT SANCTIONS. In addition if you're rewarding a WALK-ON please cut someone who is on scholarship at the position. Roster management please.

When you have an unknown (i.e. sanctions) you hold off from doing things like rewarding Walk-Ons scholarships. I agree with working hard and rewarding hard work, when things are normal (no sanctions) and you're willing to demonstrate consequences (cuts).

We will see how good Kidd is and what he contributes. I hope he is worth of a scholarship because I rather use it towards sanctions.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. We are recruting WRs like its going out of style. We have 80 billion, and WRs pretty much grow on trees down in south florida. Meanwhile we have like a handful of DTs....and people have the nerve to complain and call others 'mopes' when it gets pointed out.

I agree with most of this, but I just think this staff struck out very badly when recruiting(DT and WR's) and tried to make up for it with bodies hoping one of these less talented guys would pan out.

The DT numbers when counting actual DT's aren't bad. The quality is, and when you have lame duck players on your squad at position(E. Morre, C. King, J. Hamilton), those numbers look smaller than they are because they dont contribute.

The DL numbers are a bit much to me. We have about 8-9 DT's and 6-7 DE's and that doesnt even count McCord who is listed as LB. We actually have enough DT's we just dont have enough that contribute, and of those we dont have enough that contribute to the level we need them to.

IMHO it's less about numbers on the DL and more about quality, i dont think any of us would be having this discussion if they guys AG and staff are bringing in actually contribute. Recruiting is obviously "trending up" now but it needs to be sustained, and that will only happen if these young guys mixed with these "bodies" keep the ship afloat until reinforcements come.

No. People complain about it when you point it out in every thread. A good player commits and to steal the momentum you ask is he can play DT. Everyone. EVERYONE knows we need DTs.

Do you guys really think the staff isn't recruiting any DTs? Getting them to commit is a different story. And they need to do that. You guys really think that there will be no room for DTs to commit if they intend to?

What unknown?
- We have known sanctions that the staff is working with. It is not like next season the NCAA is going to say "Surprise! You can only play with 70 this year because you spun a 70 on the Wheel of Roster Size!, Come on Down!"

This will probably be Jarrett Kidd's last year in the program unless he makes an impact this year. Golden awarded him a scholarship because of his hard work and he is a senior now in the classroom and a red shirt junior on the field. I honestly don't believe he will be here next year.

Scott and Dorsett graduate this year.

Coley gonna leave as a junior next year and Waters graduates next year.

That's 4 down in next two years.

*Not including that some guys could transfer or get hurt.* Their is always transfers or sometimes some kids flunk out or get kicked out due to suspensions.

Lewis is here for another 3 seasons.

Jones emerged in spring, but if some guys pass him up, he might step out.

Njoku will be a TE. Mark it down or a TE/WR like a Winslow or Graham.

Gray could end up at RB. This is pending if he makes it in.

Berrios probably plays this year.

50/50 on Brady playing or redshirting this year.

Langham will probably redshirt. Also pending if he makes it in.

Then you got coming in next year

Chatman - most likely redshirt
Gossier - most likely redshirt
Spence - most likely redshirt

Looks like we are only going after 1-2 more this year. Peete and then we could make it two if we could land a Ridley, Cain, Durante or Phillips. *Think Ridley is best chance out of those 4.*

*IF we got Ridley he would be the only one to play right away as a freshman. The others would get redshirted for class separation and development

2016 we are going to take quite the haul at WR. We're talking 5-6. Most 7.

2017 very good chance we take way less, 1 or 2. Most would be 3.

It will all work it's self out. We will be fine. You can never have enough skill position players. Remember some of these guys would help out on special teams too.

I remember a time Brian Monroe...a punter was in our 2-deep

I remember the bowl game last year where the only healthy WR was Coley. Hurns, Lewis, Scott and Dorsett all gimpy. Waters didn't play. Coley is a spread guy. If we had more healthy WRs we likely would've seen more three and four WR sets. Okie State has 18 WRs on their roster. They're not all on scholarship but they're in the double digits there. Thats not including the incoming 3 freshmen they signed.

Golden must be doing something right if we are complaining about this type of ****.

And I find it VERY VERY VERY funny that EVERY **** YEAR we say to ourselves, "My God, we have too many WRs, there is only one ball to go around!" Only for 2-3 of those same WRs to go down with an injury then we are stuck, like we have been for the last 2 years, throwing Tr-Fr out there and guys who arent ready.

Two years ago, Herb Waters should have never seen the field as a Tr-Fr. Two WRs get injured and BOOM! He is **** near a starter.

Last year Dorsett and Scott go down and MLewis is not his old self and BOOM! We are literally stuck with Hurns, Waters and Coley for the last half of the year. Waters was in no mans land the second half of the year and Coley hit the freshmen wall.

AND THIS IS MIAMI!!! I will never complain about having too many WRs again. I think Al feels the same.
