Watching this Central play calling, I’m shocked it didn’t work out for Nix here.

Central down 21-7 in the 4th, march right down the field and on 3rd and inches from the 5 yard line Nix calls a rollout throwback to the fullback that loses 5. Upshaw is so clearly the best player on the field when Central is on offense and they’re doing an awful job of getting him the ball in the 2nd half.

Wouldn't be mad with an inch or two taller version of Bond tbh. I don't know anything about Bond in high school but looks like he played running back so I'd assume Upshaw comes in a bit more polished.

Miami signee Daylyn Upshaw (Phenix City, AL) checks all of these boxes. At 6’, 180 pounds, Upshaw combines a sturdy frame with explosive quicks out of breaks. He has been extremely productive for Central High School, accumulating over 2,100 yards the past two seasons with 31 TDs and a state title.

Upshaw, who is coached by former Miami OC Pat Nix, is a composite three-star player with offers from Auburn, Arkansas and Florida. His playing style compares to former Miami Hurricane Allen Hurns.

I like his upside. Kid was Central whole offense and often bracketed and still produced. Not an elite burner but can run some routes and has good to elite hands. Def a good prospect.

That’s actually a nice comparison. Both don’t have the greatest speed times but play faster than the speed times. They also get open , slippery with the ball, quick out of breaks , high points in he ball well and physical for their size. Not saying he’ll be that good but there similarities.

Didn’t watch the game, but from the little I have seen. He will be good. He’s twitchy, fast, still needs to hit the weight room though.

I agree. He was my favorite recruit on offense from last year’s class. Kid is a baller. It’s coaching malpractice that he’s barely seen the field here.
