WR Coach Candidates

Look, I'm going to leave it at this.

I agree with the last paragraph. 100%. And that is 100% why the Rooney Rule was instituted, because of the bullcrap circular argument about "we don't have any qualified minority candidates" coupled with "but you don't even let minority candidates figure out how to even interview". And you keep referencing the NFL process, of which there are only 32 job openings total (whether it is HC, coordinator, or position coach).

But that is different from college, and the concept of interviewing "to learn how to interview" vs. interviewing "to have a future job reference", particularly when we are talking about 130+ potential job openings at any given level of coaching.

To make things simple, Hank interviewed for a job HE COULD GET, not just a job that was beyond him, and then chalking it up as "an experience". And as others have pointed out, his family lives here. So it's real. It's not "professional suicide" or anything like that for him to consider taking a job with UM.

And think about this one final consideration. We've seen more than a few guys change positions because there may be confusion over "who gets the credit for the improvement, the head coach, the coordinator, or the position coach" (Riley to Clemson). So maybe Hank believes that a successful UM turnaround job will make him look better than a few more years of riding the success train in San Francisco. I think that the reasons why Hank is legit interested in the UM job outweigh some of the reasons why he might only be taking a courtesy interview.

We shall see how it all plays out soon.
I think you misunderstood what I said. I was using other examples outside of hanks situation to explain the nfl coaching fraternity/circle.

Hank is over qualified at this point to just be miamis WR/PCG if that’s just what he interviewed for. I speculated that he took the interview as a courtesy to his family and networking opportunity for down the road. No loss situation for him.

I guess we will have to disagree about the career suicide thing. He’s in Kyle Shanahans wheel house, the amount of coaches that have worked under him while he was a head coach or OC that have gone on to be head coaches themselves is ridiculous.

Objectively if Hank keeps developing Deebo and the other San Fran receivers and they keep winning then that will do much more for his resume than coming down to Miami and helping Dawson turn around a Miami offense. If he sticks at San Fran and Kyle keeps him employed then he will be a head coach in 2-3 years or at least getting serious consideration. The proof is in Kyle’s track record of getting his subordinates head coaching gigs.

The only reason I could logically see him take the Miami job is to come home and lower taxes, but career wise it would be a terrible move unless he became OC but that ship has sailed.

He did but he also hinted at another guy who has Florida ties who's rising the ranks the last couple years. It was not those 3.

Hank did interview for the WRC gig, though. But I don't think he'd settle for "just" a WRC gig (ie. he'd want PGC or co-OC or something).

If Mario decides Hank is "it" we'd happily give him the title to accommodate the fact that he's dropping from the NFL to CFB of his own accord.

But that’s how Cristobal recruits.

Cristobal doesn’t target a bunch of “developmental” guys. He’s a pure Star Wh*re. He would tell you that. Guys that look the part the second they step off the bus.

Miami isn’t going to target a bunch of 3* or low 4* guys under Cristobal. Especially at WR in South Florida. It’s big game hunting.
Not the point. I was primarily commenting on Hartline being silver tongued and developer/teacher is overblown statement. Some disagree that he's silver tongued and, in a room filled with 5*'s, just don't fvck up.

Cristobal is non sequitur.

He was talking about the LB coach who wasn’t yet announced when they recorded the pod.

Anyways, I think it would be wise for the WR coach to have some history with an offense similar to what Dawson runs. You have to get the coaches all on the same page. You can have good coaches, but if their philosophies or teaching methods don’t work together, the end result will be mediocre.

I mean, he is out of a job after the Indy staff got axed 🤷🏾‍♂️. He is another guy who could probably land us any WR in America as long as our offense/passing game has a pulse. I’m skeptical that an NFL HOF’er would want to be a college assistant coach but that’d be great for us.
We have a NFL HOFFER as a grad assistant **** near.

Fair enough.

We have to take context into account too. I mean, FOR WEEKS we had people swearing up and down that Brian Johnson was coming, even though there was LESS family and alma mater justification for him coming to Miami than Hankerson has.

So, setting aside our different takes on a couple of things, I still think it's valuable to note that Hankerson is a serious candidate. Everything else is bygones.

And I swear I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. All is good in the world, we are starting to get this coaching **** straight.

I don't know about Hartline's salesmanship, but not only has he (and Day, Meyer) developed a number of recent first and round other picks, Ohio State has been delivering WRs to the league for a long time. Chris Carter, Joey Galloway...

Not a tough sell.

But F-Ohio State!

Yep, it's not a hard sell.

lol I'm on team Galloway and I've never heard of him before this morning
Lonnie Galloway infamously got suspended when he was on Petrino’s staff at LVille when Tommy Elrod was basically sending him Wake Forest’s playbook through email & text because the two of them had previous friendship from when Galloway was at Wake as well. It was the renowned #WakeyLeaks scandal...

He bounced back when Mack Brown hired him at UNC because he’s a Crootin’ extraordinaire, he’s landed some big time prospects at UNC & West VA.
