Hey OP, awhile back there was a lot of talk about the staff going with a new, much more aggressive strategy (vs last cycle). I took that to mean we’d have more whales early. With what seems like a string of whales not working out, has the strategy changed? Back to hoping for flips?

It’s all moot now, but disagree. For a program that hasn’t won 11 games since 50 cent dropped his 1st album, has won 1 bowl game since I graduated HS and has a notorious stench for ****ting the bed late and flopping come bowl season, it would have been nice to flip that narrative on his heads against a quality ranked opponent.

Would our commit list be any different? No. Would we have added anyone different in the portal windows and would our o/u odds for 2025 be any different? Probably not. But I want to win every single game we play in and winning 11 games, even with a bowl win, sounds a helluva lot better than having a spiraling finish in typical UM fashion and losing our last 2 games 🤷🏾‍♂️.
Mario wins 11 and the Board is calling for an extension, we lose because we cannot prepare a backup QB to run the #1 offense in the country for a half, and it is meaningless...

You play to win the game.

That first sentence is prolly true as far as this board goes..but in the real world not much changes, we didn’t make the playoffs or a conference title game

A win to close the year vs. losing 3 of 4 and collapsing sucks. It is why we have a dozen threads on "Why is Florida getting more hype than us?" -- because we Miami'd, we Mario'd...

So I do think another win helps... the bowl game was awful... it shined light on the Emory bull****, showed we were Cam-tastic... Mario also completely fumbled the Cam situation which took a solid season and ended it like another WTF Are We Doing episode..

Thank god, TrumpyCane could only imagine this off season if Emory lit it up that half and was favored to start

I knew the moment I saw Cam on the sideline after halftime we were in BIG trouble (0 faith in the defense.) I even had the faint thought Cam would come out on that last drive n be a hero one last time for the U on some movie **** 😂 but we were just fine w/ riding Emory to 10-3

It would have been something. Lighting it up would have given hope, it would be the middle road that would kill us.

Sorry to add that little factual detail to your story, but we have been hearing it's months away from the finish line for multiple seasons and portal classes and we still haven't stacked classes or created a balanced roster...

We are in full blown peacock the W's and make excuses for the L's season... Crootin!!!
You are such a loser lol 🤣 🤣 🤣 no wonder your single lol. Stay off the board

Underrated post. @1murhurricane if I understand your comments in past posts, your contacts are less coaches more players/NIL, correct? Do you hear from them that Mario pushed super hard and it just didn't resonate with them? I know some recruiting losses were $$$ related. But it feels like we lost some head on head battles where the money was close or even. Did our aggressive approach backfire? If so, do you feel his staff has course corrected and is going to be successful at playing the long game?

There is a lot of talent verballed to programs that could implode (Billy, Mikey, Venables, Riley, Freeze). I always felt being the side hustle with those kids could pay off in the stretch. Close rates would be 10-20%, not 30%+. But worth having space for some +1s.

That doom and gloom sh@t. Let's wait to it plays out n see what we end of with. The roster is coming alone. You putting anything in the collective? If not STFU
It played out. We lost the bowl game and 3/4 down the stretch. Coming along? Year 4 and we are still not stacking classes. We played with half a team last year.

Apologies in advance for my longest post ever ha! I have less than zero contact with our staff right now so I can only speak from recruits, high school coaches, 7 on, other college coaching staffs and parents. My opinion is from talking to people is UM staff has a nice plan and does a great job communicating. But they tend to misread where they stand with some out of state recruits often. This has been persistent in years past. They underestimate the chances with some kids and overestimate with some. Money is not an issue and have no issues there. Side note USC class has exactly zero chance of holding together.

We have had a better chance at Lamar than JJ (this years JJ) Nolan and others people around the UM program misread. Cantwell visited UGA 5 times and was trying to convince himself. That's not always a tell tale sign of where someone is going and I've seen our staff firsthand be deterred by that.

I might add we have to hit Houston, LA and Chicagoland and the god damned DMV harder. Those kids will line up to come here.

@STG where you at with the connect dawg! Lol

Honestly feels like you need connection with people higher up than just like assistants like you were saying previously. Which honestly is like Mario himself (or whoever is leading negotiations with CanesConnection) tbh... Obviously they are never going to fully agree with you and are still going to want to swing for certain guys they have higher and not go for guys you say they can win that they have lower. Just the way it will always be. But if we can get say even 2-3 more impactful recruits per year it's well worth it.

We should absolutely be dedicating even more time towards top rated OOS city/metro kids. The returns are FAR better there than top rated local or southern rural kids. Just the reality...

The staff just needs to quit ******* around and make 2 key hires off the field. They know who they are. I promise you WR and DB recruiting would be the best we have ever had.
