Sure, but you are conflating the point. Mario should get credit for that eval, even though Mario literally left him behind when he had the most information about the player and his injury? That seems backwards to me.

TrumpyCane never said he should get credit

"Gamble" is an oversimplification. It's a risk assessment. Injury and ability to make a full recovery on one side, sure. But player upside is on the other side. Mario made that assessment and decided the player was not worth bringing here. Implicit in that decision IS AN EVALUATION OF THE PLAYER. On a player he had the best and most recent intel on. So trying to give Mario credit for a good eval, on a player he didn't think was worth bringing with him to UM, is pretty silly to me.

And of course absolutely nobody knows for certain (including you). But unlike any of us, Mario gets paid millions to make the best call.
Risk assessment still means gamble to me. I agree, now in retrospect, he should’ve made that gamble. But no one knows what was going on in the room before that. Maybe it didn’t look like he was gonna make a full recovery, no one knows. But it definitely didn’t work out for us That’s for sure.

Either recruit at an elite level or develop players at an elite level. I think most of us would be fine if we had a HC that landed the the #15 class but we won 10+ games, had 10+ players get drafted into nfl each year, with 3-4 of those players being 1st rounders.
Who does this every season? Maybe 1 out of 4 but 10 draft picks every year for non elite recruiting teams doesn't seem like a real thing.

We are on pace for the same type of class as usual lol not bad. Also not enough. Both can be true
2026: 10th in recruit ranking
2025: 14th in recruit ranking
2024: 11th in recruit ranking
2023: 7th in recruit ranking

Fudge the numbers based on class size all ya want but yeah this is about our wheelhouse

TrumpyCane could only imagine this board if Mario brought in a guy coming off an ACL tear

Everyone would have been crying Chaney would get carries taken away by a guy with one leg
Didn’t He just bring in a QB coming off of a devastating throwing arm injury??

Isn’t Toure also coming off a major knee injury? I believe some of the other transfers are also coming off injuries or have injury concerns.
