If you were the Head Coach of the University of Miami, would you band your players from posting on Social Media to stay focus and out of potential trouble?

I’m a bit of a hard *** when it comes to this type of stuff. I have zero tolerance for players doing stupid things on Social Media. If I was running this program, I would band them from posting on Social Media during Spring Training and August-January 7th.

If I’m not mistaken, Alabama and Clemson do not allow players on Social Media. Then again, for the NCAA sake, if I were them, I wouldn’t allow them to either.

Thoughts?

I’m 36. Maybe I worded it wrong. Banned players from posting on Social Media. You can still go on Social Media and not post.

Specific to us and the current state of the program- you can't have a coach that has wisely and wholeheartedly embraced social media himself but then be puritanical about it with your players.

It's actually not that hard and not even about policing it. It's about your players understanding what's acceptable to put out there for public consumption and what's not.

Coaches/programs have pretty much mastered educating their players about what to and what not to say to the media. This is almost the same type of training.

Don't know that you go so far as to ban players, but you definitely need a policy or standard for dealing with social media. The earlier stated idea of team leaders helping police is a decent idea. Definitely need some guidelines or you're asking for trouble.

No.
Why?

Social Media is here and isn't going anywhere. You police it make sure nothing crazy is being shown.

ok, and then what? Still would not ban for "crazy' stuff being shown? What then the point of policing it?

Only during the season. From the first day of training camp to the Natty. You should be busy enough with school and the game that you shouldn't need it.

Because these are 18-22 year old kids who sometimes don't think before they do things. Let them tweet all they want just make sure they aren't showing or typing anything that can hurt themselves or the University

no. the only one with issues on SM is perry. the rest are harmless. teach them to be smarter with their posts and hope they listened. you cannot outright ban players from using SM esp if you want to recruit. also, manny uses SM as a big tool so its really hypocritical to ban his own players from using it too

Again, so what do you do if they are posting stuff that is damaging to themselves or university?
