Would be nice if pur DB's would watch the ball

Maybe looking back at the ball while sticking to the receiver is hard to do and requires really talented DB? I don't know, someone may have a better insight.
It is a scary thing to do. When you turn to find the ball you now take your eyes off of the receiver. You have to trust in your positioning and your ability to find the ball. Essentially you become a wr. If you do it wrong it's a big gain. The best can keep an eye on the receiver peripherally while still locating the ball. Our defensive backs for some reason just kept their eyes focused on the wr's. That can work if you are able to read/react to the receivers movements to try and break the reception. But they don't seem to do that very well either. All of this is High School **** that should be perfected in college.

I have been told repeatedly not to worry about Mike Rumph being an absolute abortion as a recruiter because he's a GREAT coach.

We can do better at so many spots on this coaching roster. We are operating at a major disadvantage with guys like Brown/Richt at OC, Richt Jr, Rumph, Hartley as STC, etc. Kul better be all he's cracked up to be as a technician, too, given the direction our talent is heading at DT. For all the hype, Clemson and Wisconsin just raped his line full of NFL players.

Folks want to be optimistic but we were two Langham miracles from being a 5 loss team, point blank. These guys just aren't very good.

And now they will all be given the benefit of the doubt by the administration and most fans because we have a ten win season. The reality is we have a very green coaching staff. One spot literally went to the coaches completely unqualified son and our QB play has been predictably atrocious.

That's not on the qb coach, qb was atrocious all on his own

Yeah it's definitely a tough thing to do. Takes a lot of repping IMO.

At some point, though, I think it becomes common sense. If you're running a fade/vertical route on the sidelines, and you're past 12 yards, I think I can go ahead and snap my eyes back towards the ball now. There's nowhere else you can go at that point and if you turn your head towards the QB I can assume the ball is on it's way.

It was disheartening to watch everybody else's CB's do it today.

Can anyone seriously explain why last last 4 games each opposing QB looked like A First rounder against us? Is it lack of talent, poor game planning, or both? Or something else I’m not aware of. Our DBs look pedestrian, the DL looks so so pressure wise...and late; and the Lbs look so so. Not poking them in the eye, just trying to be objective and understand where and what we need to improve

You guys keep talking about looking back for back shoulder throws like that’s even possible.

This is where you dudes expose yourselves.

The correct way to handle that is to play through the WRs hands. Our guys absolutely suck at that. That’s your issue. Turning back would actually make it look worse because it will create separation for an easier catch.

You turn back when you’re 20+ yards down field and the WR is looking up AND high. that’s what let’s you know you have time to turn - the WR.
To also blow your minds - it only makes sense to turn when you’re even with the WR....you don’t turn when you’re trailing.

You idiots just parrot the same crap each game.

Our guys don’t know how to play the ball when their backs aren’t turned. It’s like it’s not taught at all. They just flail like morons.

What ever happen to jamming the receiver at the LOS ,disrupting timing and rhythm of the route?

I disagree. Our corners are poorly coached. You have to turn and find the ball and they failed on all 4 TD passes. Backshoulder, Fades, Post, Rub. If the db would have bothered to find the ball in either of those they either break up or intercept. Bad technique in coverage every play really. Hence why we don’t get off the field.

You can disagree all you want. Turning your head to find the football is something taught since pee wee football. The techniques are miles better than they were with Paul Williams and yea Coach Rumph is teaching them turn their head...his CB’s were turning their head at AH when he was there, Trajan turns his head all the time, Mike Jackson turns his head, and so does Jaquan...Rumph can’t stop time and run on to the field to turn their head for them.
none of them turned and found the ball Saturday.

Uhhh what game did you watch?
The one where a pedestrian QB threw four touchdowns to slow receivers and our defensive backs ran with them stride for stride yet kept their eyes glued to their man.

They were still out of position

Not to be argumentative, but I rewatched the game and our DB’s were in position, they just didn’t bother to find the ball. It was frustrating watching Wisconsins receivers catch the ball right next to our effectively blind defensive backs.
