100% agree Scaife has been given several chanes in big games at RT and RG and looked lost every time. Better OL coaching may have improved his play but i do not want to take a chance against the better teams

He was second-team All-ACC last year at guard.

I also like him better at tackle but I think they want to keep developing Campbell out there. Center is Scaife’s ideal position, IMO.
 
I haven't seen Scaife in person in a year+ but last time I did I was underwhelmed by his size. I presume he's gained some size since then, but I distinctly recall believing that he's better suited at tackle. Campbell is a little wider than he is. I'd prefer to see Campbell at RG and keep Scaife at RT.

Both Mario and Gattis have openly mentioned they will use all things to their advantage whether it be tempo, extra lineman, unbalanced lines, motion, shifts, etc. Mario showed that when they went into OSU last year, they used unbalanced lines and extra lineman, wouldnt be surprised if they do same in coming week
 
Scaife played well at guard last year and I would slide him down again to get Campbell in IF we were a wide split, air it out offense with more zone blocking schemes. In that system he would be fine inside but in this system, I just dont see it. He had a nice game at tackle though.

Not sure if Campbell moves the needle as much at guard either, this might be a situation where you just have to have a good player on the bench. Maybe rotating in to give the starters a breather even though that doesn't usually happen as much with the OL.

I can't say I looked much into his play last season, but didn't he start 8 games at RG?

In his RT start against Alabama, he had the unfortunate reality of facing some of the best Edge defenders in the country. It was rough. He apparently picked up his play enough to receive All-Conference honors as a RG.

But, again, I know only two things for sure: I didn't key on him last season and our current coaching staff prefers bigger interior linemen.
 
Scaife was a solid guard last year and top 25 returning player in the acc playing guard. I would definitely put him at guard and Campbell at tackle and have a very good starting five with Zion at left tackle rivers at LG and Clark at center with scaife at guard and Campbell at tackle.

The line improved when Scaife moved to guard and Gaynor went out. Williams and Nelson were at T, Clark at C, Scaife and ****** at G. Justice rotated in and I thought he was solid.

What @Warrior808 says above is really important to note, though. This is an entirely different scheme with entirely different asks (so far and from what was projected). It's why there is no secret that our staff wants an upgrade in power (mass/acceleration/velocity). If you turn it into a Math problem, like I'm sure everyone wants, we need more flexible dudes who are tipping the scales at 310+.

Our Guards need to move people. And, move themselves up the field. I clearly do not watch enough practice to say who's the best candidate to fit this staff's very different blocking scheme needs. In a weird way, if this were November, it might be Logan or Cooper. But for game 2 and going into TAMU, I would be surprised if it's not some combination of Scaife and Campbell - again, not knowing who they prefer to kick inside.

If our X receiver is just gonna block, then **** it, bring in another OL. Ha.

This. Scaife has struggled at RT. His best ball has been at guard and especially based on his physical makeup, I think guard is the way to go. Have him as the 6th OL to provide depth at either guard spot, as long as Logan is dependable enough as a starter whiuch remains to be seen.

I think that's his role.

Lol you want him at RT going against a&m after seeing what Bama did to him last year

He played well there last season after he moved , that’s why he finished second team all All Acc.
