With pristine new facilities, Northwestern's looking pretty good

Hey earnest do you ever wonder why half of your posts are insulting people in retaliation? Stop posting.

Let OP argue with himself.

The idea that football programs are spending more money on facilities improvement is nothing new, every major P5 program, is aware of it, and most will use whatever resources they have available to keep up.

As everyone is aware, while Miami may not be on the leading edge with billion dollar smoothie bars, they are in a favorable position with the IPF currently undergoing completion, and with pretty spectacular new dorms soon to break ground.

As long as the facilities are kept at a modern standard, with the latest in training and nutrition, and let’s not forget the new adjacent medical facilities, we’ll be just fine.

It’s just a matter of being efficient with resources and space, while judging what’s feasible and what isn’t, what really makes a difference and what doesn’t (as far as recruiting). Miami has already made a commitment to spend as they can to maintain a championship level.

~What does that mean? Alabama and Clemson are the "Modern standard". This is not about clean dorms, restrooms and vending machines with cool graphics. If 18 and 19 year old kids visit the Alabama's and Clemson's of the world and then visit the facilities at Miami they are going from 5 star, luxury, opulent amenities to utilitarian, unremarkable structures. If you cannot see the massive advantage this gives to the "Four Seasons Hotel" college football playgrounds then we will leave the light on for ya.

Here's what's going to transpire over the next several years...the flat earth crowd will wake-up one morning having realized that recruits are in fact heading in droves to the luxury college football facilities and start bellowing and attacking Miami's administration for not having the foresight to have seen this problem coming. They will be telling each other how for year's they were warning anyone with ears, but no one would listen to them.

But, forget everything above and answer these question:
  • Why are universities across the country investing untold millions to produce extravagant football facilities?
  • These are universities that are purported to have some of the best minds in the world. Is it your position that all of these people are simply stupid and there will be no return on these massive investments?
  • Is it your belief that these football compounds, soon to be seen on the Rich and Famous program, are not being constructed due to the belief it will supercharge their recruiting, but simply being done out of the kindness of the various administrations hearts? You know, a modern day version of the movie, 'Trading Places'.
  • Many of the benefactors are brilliant business people who have been sold on the idea to build these mega luxury football complexes after being told how they will greatly improve their football programs. Have they suddenly become painfully stupid and like dominoes are being mowed down one by one across America via a massive ponzi scheme?
  • Do you think that Nick Saban is a fool to believe that Alabama's super build-out will in any way give him a significant recruiting edge over the schools that don't have similar facilities?
  • Is it possible that you believe that these compounds across the land are being sold as college football facilities, but in reality will be converted to luxury Indian Casinos?
  • And finally, countless times on this message board I've read the observation that Miami underclassmen come out early due to being surrounded by the wealth they see in Miami, but you don't believe these same kids will be swayed by the football schools boasting 5 star hotels, with every imaginable amenity, that they, wink-wink, call football facilities?

Finally, I have every confidence that the UM administration recognizes the significant challenge "I keep bringing up" and are at the very least brainstorming as how to respond. My belief is this issue will be solved with the introduction of a uber high net worth donor or a syndicate of high net worth benefactors. Putting together a sophisticated advance/planning team is a must and they will develop designs, location(s) and budgets for the consideration of the donor/benefactors. I suspect the funding will ultimately come from a syndicate with a goal of raising $100 to $200 million.

Then why the **** are you posting this facility crap every week when you stated above that UM has a solution? Obviously, you are wasting your great skills in fundraising organization by taking the time out to insult us instead of daily meetings with President Frenk. While your at it, make sure enough $$$$ is raised for an army of football staff consultants and to offset state taxpayer funding on utilities and real property maintenance on these facilities...Looks like your $200 million is already way short.

Better get moving, your other sibling is already wooing that uber net worth donor:

Your ignorance and childlike naivete greatly impresses me.

The "we're in Miami and they're in back water America offsets the facilities issue" is laughable. Alabama (Tuscaloosa), FSU (Tallahassee), Clemson (Pickens County), Ohio State (Columbus) have done reasonably well over the last 10 or 15 years not being located in South Florida...have they not? That 305 location advantage is old news as the world of recruiting has become sophisticated and far reaching.

If you believe that Power-5 college football programs have invested close to a billion dollars in football facilities over the last decade simply because they had a pile of money they didn't know what to do with it, so be it. But, only naming two, Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney, have made it clear that to continue to dominate requires state of the art, opulent football facilities. Yet, you and others are much smarter than those two Cats...after all...what the **** do they know?

While I desperately wish I was wrong, one cannot deny what is undeniable.

So what do you suggest we do, curl up in a fetal position under the nearest kitchen sink?

Uhhh I believe you missed the point... He did not say that "back water America" cannot do reasonably well. He said Miami won't have to dump as much money into its facilities as "back water America" because of the other benefits Miami has to offer (south beach, weather, Brazilian Butt Models, etc), which is 100% accurate.

If your location is nothing to write home about, you have to fill the gap... whether it be with facilities, or bag money or free tattoos.

Anyone denying great facilities is important in THESE days are not well versed in today’s recruiting. If you are top recruit you want to be using the best of the best facilities. We have generally been getting a better response lately in terms of recruiting in the last few years with our increased facilities upgrades which we definitely needed. Have you seen Miami freshman dorms? They look like cell blocks, the new housing upgrade is much needed period. In addition to that the ipf will modernize Miami’s football offices as well as the weight room.

Lookout, Buckeyes. there's a new Big 10 program looking to dominate! Why play for Urban Liar when you can have a view of the Chicago skyline from your IPF?

Happy Valley? More like Sappy Valley. The Nitney Lions will have no hope after the quarter of a billion dollars well spent in Chicago.

Jim Harbaugh could only hope to have the Wildcat budget for his Wolverines!

Badgers? We don't need no stinking Badgers!

There can be only ONE... Wildcat team and we saw it with the defeat of Kentucky this bowl season.

So, what will our IPF look like inside when completed? Like Northwestern's, or an empty Sam's Club/Costco warehouse?

Yes, he did. He would miss walking into whale's ****** if it interferes with the sound of his own keyboard. Admittedly, I was wrong to expect the concept of a strategic advantage to resonate with his ignorant ***, let alone the concept of a brand. Anyway, the one lesson he is teaching us is not to feed the trolls.

So, in your world, most all of the significant college football programs have built or are in the process of building Taj Mahal like facilities to help attract top recruits and you don't think that development is relevant to UM's future football fortunes? Look up the definition of reality. The deniers are blind to the enormous elephant in the room. I guarantee you that in the coming years the relevancy of my comments will hit you over your empty head.

Yeah, all your threads end in a meltdown and the obliteration of your thesis, but you're right, it's us.

My reasoning when posting the Northwestern developments was to point out the bigger picture that most every top college football program has or are in the process of building 5 star football facilities that will significantly tilt the recruiting wars in their favor.

Those who deny or downplay this certainty still believe the earth is flat. Walking a kid through a 'Four Seasons Hotel' and then a 'Days Inn' and afterward posing the question, 'where would you like to spend your next 3 or 4 years?', is like asking a kid if he would like to own a Ferrari or a Hyundai.

Also, those facilities will play a role in attracting the very best head coaches and assistant coaches.

The article is misleading.

Northwestern's facility isn't just a football facility. It's for use by all their sports teams, and also has areas for regular students and IM's.

If you just look at the IPF, you'll see line markings for field hockey, lacrosse, etc.

So, yes it is gourgeous and great for them, but NW didn't spend $270 million for football. Football gets to use it, but its really a multipurpose facility for their entire athletic program and them some.

~Under the heading; ‘Takes One to Know One’, you seem to be awfully familiar with the steps one should take when suffering from mental illness.

When you know you are wrong the only thing you have left is to attack the messenger...and you are even pathetic in that endeavor!

Just answer the questions, junior, as I want you to be on record so when the facilities issue takes front and center stage I will happily re-post your clueless nonsense.

Yeah, all your threads end in a meltdown and the obliteration of your thesis, but you're right, it's us.

You are right, but I believe that most of these mega facilities have to give a minor nod to other sports to lessen any blow-back from groups who believe that football is playing too large a role on the campuses of university's.

You have once again proven...you simply can't fix dumb. You go through life confused and dazed. When someone says up, you hear down. When they say black, you hear white.

My comments were in no way aimed at the lowest intelligence knuckle draggers on this message board such as yourself, but you had to stumble into the discussion and add your foul odor and sophomoric comments.

Junior? LOL

I’m not reading any of your self aggrandizing babble more than once.

What is really sad about this thread encompassing tantrum that you are throwing is that most of the posts have been fairly reasonable, yet you are are still desperately looking for a fight.

Since you seem to lack focus, let me summarize for you, junior, oh sorry, let me use something more apt, let me summarize, fūckface:

1. Most posters agree that many P5 schools are in somewhat of a facilities arm race

2. Most posters feel that to this point, with what Miami has accomplished and has planned over the last couple of years, that they have done a better than adequate job to this point.

3. Most posters also understand that while Miami faces both budgetary and space constraints, that they should, and probably will do their best to not get left behind in this race.

4. Finally, most posters agree that whatever deficits we may have that cannot be made up (for example, we don’t have the room for a 10,000 square-foot smoothie bar), that we can certainly market location, beauty, culture, academics and cultural diversity as an offset.

Now go howl at the moon.
