The speed factor is a stupid cliche that has nothing to do with the outcome of the game.
#8 Joe Ferguson was the only guy that got burned against OSU and couldn't keep up. He is a walk-on that is only playing because of a nagging injury to the starter Dixon who should be fine for the bowl game.
OSU had guys open because of scheme and missed tackles, not because UW couldn't keep up. We stayed in base for almost all of the 1st half to prevent the read option that OSU runs so well and they caught us a couple times. Heck on two of their long plays they got caught from behind by Badger DBs. But the D went in at half, adjusted and held OSU to 6 points in the second half.
Just FYI;
CB Derrick Tindal 5-11 181 SR Fort Lauderdale, FL
S Natrell Jamerson 6-0 198 SR Ocala, FL
S D'Cota Dixon 5-10 204 SR Oak Hill, FL
CB Nick Nelson 5-11 208 JR Glenarden, MD (DMV)
Nickel CB Dontye Carriere-Williams 5-10 192 FR Miami, FL
So tell us more about these slow, 'rustic' DBs. As with every CFB game this will be won or lost in the trenches. If Miami can shut down UW's run game and maintain coverage on the PA they have a great shot at a W. For as bad as the first half looked against OSU and for all the dropped balls and missed tackles by UW, they still had a shot to win it in the last minute and just couldn't quite get there. So far it seems as if many here have learned nothing since our last matchup, "speed speed speed, slow B1G, blah blah blah."
