How many do we need to win to positively impact recruiting?

It was already a business decision for these kids but NIL made it even moreso

We don’t put guys in the first round anymore, we don’t play meaningful games during the season, we don’t play in big bowl games

As much as we leveraged NIL with Mario’s first year recruiting bump, the stuff just averages itself out. We were never going to have some miracle advantage that the blue bloods couldn’t simply just adjust and beat us at again.

I think Mario is a top flight recruiter but not only did we go 5-7, but it was actually worse looking than that. We looked like a G5 program by the end of the season. We weren’t just a group of young kids taking their lumps showing promise for the future.

Anyway, rant over. Win some ******* games and look competent while we do it. Not too much to ask for the budget

Win enough to get out of the "SUX TAX" bracket. That would mean 9+ wins, and means that we won't likely have to "overpay" for decent talent.
 
Nine wins changes some minds, but doesn't get us any traction with the kids we really want THAT LATE in the game (end of the season/playoffs/signing day). Because of that, I say 11 wins--maybe 10 wins--is the minimum to give us the type of bump we're looking for

We're targeting big fish and whales. Nine wins isn't going to move them to commit to Miami unless we're offering NIL opportunities that significantly outpace the competition
 
At this point from the looks of things we need at least 9 to sell recruits we are on the rise……8-4 is decent but Mario has to show he can beat someone he’s not expected to beat ( aTm ,FSU,Clemson ) for us to be able to sell that to recruits…jmo

I agree with you. The landscape has a lot to do with it. I have no idea how good, mediocre, or bad we'll be, but if we somehow finish inside the top 10, we should be in good shape.
 
10 MINIMUM...and IMO Mario knows it.
wouldn't hurt to also be a "media darling" during that run

but we live in the real world and we aren't even getting close to 10 wins.

I’d love to go 10-2, but I don’t think it helps much if the two losses are blowouts by Clemson and FSU, and the 10 wins are crappy games like last year’s Virginia or Virginia Tech games.

If we lose to Clemson or FSU or maybe UNC they need to be close, tough games, not 21+ point losses.

Miami needs to dominate lesser teams on the scoreboard, not gut out a three point win and then try to show some stat how we allegedly dominated.

Style points will count.

This (meaning the bolded). We looked out classed even against 8-win teams (not to mention MTSU). For years we consistently made stupid mistakes and penalties. When was the last time we played relatively mistake free football. Does anyone think any highly ranked recruits, with first round aspirations would trust our development if that doesn't turn around?

There's not much difference between 5-7 and 7-5, just regression to the mean as far as injuries will do that for us. We've often got 8 or 9 wins over the last 20 year, but we usually f*cked up in the end of the year when a division title or bowl game was on the line.

The teams we're competing with for those type of recruits win 10 games regularly and are always in the playoff discussion toward the end of November. If you want to significantly change the narrative, we need to get to the same level.

Agreed. 2022 was a suck fest, but people around here act as if the 2021 was anything but a paper tiger. We got SMOKED in every loss.

Playing in the worst of the P4 conferences and having an advantage in the trenches should allow us to beat similar caliber teams with 1/4 of the anxiety (assuming the coordinators are top 30 level). We have legit playmakers at every level and certifiable up-and-comers in the 2-deep. Mario has already proved capable of year 2 turnarounds and getting 9-10 wins. Barring a devastating hurricane and injuries, this is a 10 win team (with bowl game). If we get a bounce here and there and our coordinators end up being playoff-legit, we may even get to 11 wins (and get some serious momentum in recruiting).

9 regular season wins, with a chance at 10 will do the job. I don't think people understand how important that 9-3 number is for us. We've only won 9+ games in a season three times since like 2004. Going 9-3/10-2 would be a big boon and step forward for us. Hopefully we can do more but we'll see.

That's not a prediction of wins, that's the number of wins I think we need to move the needle in a positive direction, holding all other things equal (o sea, ceteris paribus, ya brig).

My line of thinking as well, along with handing out some beatdowns in those first 6 and show this isn't anything like last years offense so some offensive recruits might actually be interested in coming here after last season's ****show

10 moves the needle and may turn a few heads. Even then that may not be enough to pay dividends in the 24 class.

In my opinion bare minimum for this year should be 8 wins. A loss to A&M early would hurt but a win over FSU or Clemson later in the season and finishing strong would really do wonders for the offseason.
