Win The Day

Still laughing several minutes later. Can’t believe Susan really didn’t ask about “how you do anything is how you do everything” in relation to the red zone, or the player preparedness or game planning, anything. She comes up with a motto to ask about that Mario has never spoken at least as the Miami head coach lmao.
I said this before and I'll say it again..... if you want rock solid job security....the Miami Herald is the place to be (apparently)

Good grief, just let the man clean up a 17-year mess at the University of Miami without dissecting every comment and going all sad-******* over every sentiment.

This team has averaged 7-5 every year since the 2006 season and his predecessor just went 21-15 (while the program was 28-24 since Richt's 10-0 start in 2017.)

It's gonna take a minute to get this thing on track and it's most-definitely a rebuild, whether most of you want to admit it, or not.

Speaking of wins

What would you consider Mario's signature win at Miami up to now?

W vs 1-4 Bethune Cookman
W vs 2-3 Southern Miss
Moral W @ aTm
Moral W vs UNC

I think I know where she got it.

"Win the Day" was Oregon's motto before Mario got there. Back when they played for the Natty against OSU or some other team (forget which). They were the PAC12 Cinderella team with the hot quarterback and I think OSU smoked 'em in the Natty.
They played OSU in the 2015 Natty. Ended up losing 42-20. Oregon fans will tell you, one of my best friends is one, that it was their best chance to win a Natty. They had Mariota under center and a loaded roster.

Admitting it's a rebuild and acknowledging facts that even the greatest coaches have rough first years is too much for people on this board. It breaks their narrative.

Calling it a rebuild is convenient when you're 2-3. Majority of players on this roster were rated 4-stars or above and we had the same access to the transfer portal as anyone else this year.

That’s the team I’m thinking of. If memory serves, Urban Liar was HC of Taint when they mollywhopped the Ducks.

Except the majority of the players also have Manny's tainted fingerprints all over them--from how they play, to their gameday energy, and the fundamentals of tackling. Pre-enrollment stars don't mean **** if they've been coached down to play like a 1-Star once they get here. Talk about this every off-season; how our guys are always underdeveloped.

Just to be absolutely clear, and this isn't a response to Mario's comments here because it's not even what he says, you don't "build culture" with mottos and themes. Ironically, that part is an offshoot of the marketing stuff we all ripped Manny and Golden for implementing. So it's fair to be consistent. I see the basic idea of "culture" (habits, mindsets, etc.) wildly confused throughout the board. ****, I see it wildly confused in most organizational leadership. It has a bad reputation because most people mainly experience or see the absolute **** "check-the-box" versions at their jobs. Football coaches should hire people who quietly do this work for real and get actual behavioral changes. Not sure why they often insist on doing this stuff themselves. No idea what Mario is doing specifically, but previous coaches tried it themselves.

There's nothing wrong with the idea of "building culture" and getting members of your team to individually and collectively act in ways you think will produce the best results. There is, IMO, something wrong with using that need as an excuse to lose to crap teams or underperform. While it's not the best situation, with our resources, it should be possible to do both at the same time. No one reasonable is expecting greatness. Just reasonable competence while building the program. Hard to argue we've seen that so far. But, it's been 4 games (BCU is irrelevant). We'll see what happens on the next gameday.

Agreed. This rebuild talk was nowhere to be found until now.

lol these mfers and their coach speak. they repeat meaningless platitudes over and over in their fluff PR segments, but then pretend to not know what you're talking about when you ask them about it

She was clearly referring to his "how you do anything is how you do everything" bs he repeats incessantly. how are players responding to that? The question wasn't even combative.

She asked a question last week in reference to the offense and whether they'll run stuff TVD was good at last year and he also wanted to pretend like he didn't understand the question.

I guess it's easier to use the female reporter as a punching bag when you can't land one on an actual opponent.
Be nice to see this kind of attitude against an actual team on Saturdays

On the subject of using "building culture" (i.e., the current lack of culture) as an excuse to underperform, I couldn't agree more. Not only is it wrong, but it's damaging to the culture you are trying to build. If you are trying to establish a culture of accountability and doing the work, publicly commenting on changing the culture over and over again only creates the impression (almost certainly the correct impression in this case) that you inherited an organization with a poor culture and that's at least a cause of the results on the field. To the extent Mario wants to build a culture of accountability, this sort of excuse-making is counter-productive.
