Willie Martinez

Martinez got suspended by the NCAA for a game while at UT for recruiting issues. If the UM search committee was spooked by Butch and what went on at UNC, why would they want Richt to touch this guy?

Per an athletics department statement available at GoVols247, Martinez's suspension is "a result of impermissible contact that occurred during the spring evaluation period in 2014," an "NCAA Level III/Secondary Violation." A Tennessee spokesman told the Tennessean that Martinez will also face recruting limitations as a result of the violation.

Also I KNOW nobody wants to hear this - Martinez was best man at Richt's wedding. That alone should automatically disqualify him. =P
 
Willie is fluent in Spanish and could be very helpful to Richt as he gets used to living in Miami again.
 
Not sure it's a good idea to hire such good friends to his staff. You have to be able to make an impartial business decision to fire them, if they aren't doing the job. Pretty sure he was forced to fire him by the AD.

Yeah, I'm not feeling Willie Martinez. This has Golden/D'onofrio written all over it. As a DB coach, sure. As a DC, there are far better names out there. I don't think there will be one problem with the offense at all. The defense will be the real question mark and DC's the most important hire now.

Sure, as a DC. At this stage in his career, he's a DB coach. I'm cool with him as a DB coach. He's recruited in the SEC for a long time and is a Miami guy.

Interestingly enough, he's served as DB coach for vanGorder in quite a few stints when BVG was DC. I'm guessing they have a very good working relationship.

Martinez will NEVER be hired as DC. You don't get a new job at your alma mater with a likely budget of over $1M for a DC and then flop Martinez's dyck on the table. No. Chance.

As Db coach fine. As DC, Richt needs to buy Rosetta Stone.

I trust MR will make good hires. not getting rustled over rumors from "insiders"
