Willie Martinez

Would love to get a DB coach that will teach our kids how to get off blocks. Tired of seeing people set the edge and our DB's getting driven into the sideline.

We got some parrots in
here. Lmao at everyone knowing Martinez is a good DB coach.

I'd love to make a run at Winston Moss. I get he is the assistant head coach, but he isn't calling the D. I'm sure he'd like to do that and set himself up for an NFL DC position.

Great post bro. Willie Martinez has been coaching DB's in major college football for 15 years but it's just ridiculous to suggest that he would be a good hire at DB coach.

Hate that 3-4 zone blitz defense. Not only is it reeeeally complex for college players, but hard to recruit for at Miami, and for results that won't be any better than running something simple and basic.

He might change that up here. He isn't the DC, just the LB coach so it might not be his call there. If Richt asked him to run a 4-3 he might be able to.

He hasn't coached much 4-3 for his whole career. Not in New Orleans, and only one season in GB. Why hire a guy who spent his whole coaching career in the 3-4 and ask him to run a 4-3 that he never coached before? Why not just hire the 4-3 guy? Take one of Seattle's assistants or Carolina's assistants.

Wouldn't be excited about WM as our DC. He didn't do well in Athens. But, could he do better in Coral Gables? If so, lets go!

Why would he do better in Miami than in Athens? It's not like UGA didn't have some serious talent.

Why? Well, I did ask if he would do better. But why would he? Because he has learned, matured, and grown as a coach . . . COULD be WHYS! I hope we get someone else though1

Another popular defensive coach is avaliable...

Justin Wilcox fired by USC.

no to DC, yes to DB. IIRC he recruited down here for UGA and players like him. Just not for the DC position.

Wilcox had like 10 F Bombs on camera last night. He knew he was gone, but weird way to go out. Very Muschamp like.

I don't know many coordinators that are fired in one school and crush it in another. Just saying.

Willie Martinez=Mark D'Onofrio. He was a complete disaster a UGA. Hiring Willie will be a very bad decision.

FWIW, the one Tennessee game I actually watched this year (don't ask why, it's a long story) was their game against Bowling Green. The DBs looked very similar to ours under Williams. What I mean by that is they took horrible angles, didn't play the ball, looked lost, etc. They gave up 217 passing yards per game, and 17 TDs with 8 INT. For comparison, Miami gave up 195 with 14 TD and had 15 INT.

There you go. UGA went through 5 hellatious years with Martinez. Richt waited way too long to fire him.

I don't think many people are suggesting he'd be the DC. Most people think richt would bring him on as a DBC.

Anyone would be better than what we have but we can do much better than Martinez for DBC. How bout Ed Reed for DBC? Arguably the best DB of all time and interested in coaching, specially at the U!!
