Taking a brief respite from refreshing my screen for recruiting nuggets and wondered what the word on the street is regarding Steele and Strong. Yes, both are officially still in the same jobs they were in last month, but who is projected to lead our D next season?

Also, any word on the other D coaches...?

Someone here mentioned that the likelihood of Mario shaking up both the oc and dc after year 1 was unlikely. I think that's the case too but what the **** do I know.
I thought the defense wasn’t as awful as the offense was at times… could it have been better sure.

LBs consisted of a true freshman in wes and a bunch of JAGs
DBs consisted of Rique and Kam and a bunch of dudes just running around
Dline was very serviceable and I thought we saw some improvement from players

I’d give him another year unless we get someone who wants the job who is an A grade higher because this side of the ball needs a lot of coaching(experience) to break bad habits from manny.

Hard to gauge the staff on defense when the team quit several times against MTSU, Duke, FSU, Pitt. There were troubling signs against Bethune and Southern Miss but when they were engaged (UNC, TAMU, UVA, VT, GT) the defense wasn't always so terrible.

I hope so. Those two coaches still have "IT". They know who to recruit, they know who is capable of being developed, they know how to develop, they bring gravitas to the unit, they represent the program exceptionally well. Very high integrity.

I can't imagine all those LBs committed to Mario without buying into having Charlie as their position coach.

Moreover, whoever we bring in at OC will want to overhaul his staff. So it would be nice to have some stability on the defensive side of the ball.

Yeah, the defense got toasted way too often. It shouldn't be at all surprising to us to see the mass exodus of DBs. That unit historically under-performed, worst gashing I've ever seen of a Miami DB unit. I was shocked given the leadership on staff. But those guys could only do so much with the hand they were dealt. I'm still all in on Steele and Strong.

Good point but does Steele have enough material to really draw up his plays the way that he wants, or will he be still limited after assessing his new group?.

The main question is ... has Gattis' replacement been identified and what is the timing?
Question is who or when?.......only Mario knows
